I don't have anything to promote directly this week, but I've got a new hybrid weirdfic/litcrit blog launching in the new year, so feel free to watch this space if you're interested. Thanks for running the #SFFchat, C.J.

I've had a long stewing scheme for a Space Opera based on William Makepeace Thackeray's Vanity Fair. It's probably my most ambitious plan, and it's about 6 years in the making so far. It's got to have social climbing with galactic stakes, attitude and the most glorious villainess ever. #SFFchat.

I have three WIPs, but I've been talking about Lindsey this whole time, so I'll keep on with that. Lindsey is nominally employed as a medical aide by Doctor Tsang, who runs an underfunded community clinic. He's the only person who knows about her condition. (That is the dying thing). #SFFchat

Well, short stories don't have chapters, so here's the last line of the first scene. "From out of the blurring blue a shadow more massive than all the rest, with craggy jagged features, shot down toward Lindsey, piercing the surface of the water." #SFFchat

#SFFChat Lindsey dies a lot.

Well, if I take my story about a spontaneously, recurringly dying girl and, I just finished Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson's Skyward Flight novellas, so . . . a recurring series of small fighter craft crashes probably. #SFFchat

15 minutes until #SFFchat! All writers of SFF are welcome

Hey, I'm JD today, he/him (it/that?) and I write weird and unsettling stories, sometimes in space. It's short story season, and I've got military SF, magical realism and Gothic horror all on deck. No, I don't feel like picking a lane -- it's fucking Christmas-time, y'all. #SFFchat

I've been pretty lax on updating over here recently, partly because of NaNo and partly because it's nice to have a life away from a computer screen. My post-NaNo writing break is over, though, so I'll probably be back to procrastinating over here too. #Author #WritingCommunity

Belated #NaNoWriMo update: I did the thing. Completed draft @ 50,002 on the 29th. Gave myself a detox day yesterday, no words only pictures. #author #WritingCommunity

Quick #NaNoWriMo update: Everything is trucking along. Slipped behind for a little while a week or so ago, but caught up the other day and now I'm back at cruising speed, if not nosing ahead. Thursday may bring challenges, but we'll see. #WritingCommunity #Author

The first Bluesky #SFFchat will be coming to you this Friday at 2pm CST. All SFF writers welcome. Spread the word! #authors #writingcommunity #queeradultSFF

Happy Partially Muscled Skeleton Stands By The Perimeter Fence And Screams For Thirty Seconds Before Vanishing day for those that celebrate

Uh, so I'm basically always in a state of mild terror, and all my stories kind of scare me. But one of my more stubborn WIPs, a novella about a ranch, has a moment where the process of making vellum is described in some detail and it's awfully hard to write every time I revise. #HorrorWritersChat

I hate that I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'm just not that well versed in the indie horror scene, but if anyone wants a break from the terror, I'll shout out my friends at @worldsmyths.bsky.social , who publish indie fantasy anthologies and novellas. #HorrorWritersChat

This one's kind of difficult. In my current work, it's probably Hal's dad, Leonard. He's not a major character, seeing as he's dead and kindness is part of the reason for that. Being good in a savage environment is unfortunately rarely rewarded. He dared to dream of a better time. #HorrorWritersChat

Hi, I'm JD again, writer of spooky and disgusting heresies against the hegemony of "actual reality". For now, I'm hauling on my #NaNoWriMo project, which accounts for November. December is short story season, and I hope to get 3-4 drafts of already outlined pieces done then. #HorrorWritersChat

I'm so sleepy today. I've been tracking pretty much exactly on par for #NaNoWriMo all week, so that's fine basically. I think I'm going to skip past the middle and work on the back end of the novel for today, see if I can get a feel for the momentum at the far side. #WritingCommunity #Author

Today I'm trying to promote my stories, follow new people, and generally falling down the sinkhole of social media. I'm still not even sure if I am doing bluesky right yet, but nevertheless I'll keep posting haha. Anyone wanna do a follow swap? I want to meet more authors 🙂 #writingcommunity

#NaNoWriMo efforts continue apace. I ended yesterday comfortably near to 4000 words, and I'll certainly pass 5k today without issue. #WritingCommunity #Author

Checking in at 2400 words for #NaNoWriMo day one. Might get a little further before I call it quits in about 90 minutes, but I'm pretty comfortable with this. #WritingCommunity #Author

Happy November, #NaNoWriMo friends. Let the reign of suffering begin. #WritingCommunity #Author

If anyone's interested in being buddies for #NaNoWriMo, here's my participant page. It's a little threadbare, but that's just because I'm awful. #WritingCommunity #Author nanowrimo.org/participants/jd-vollans

New here and trying to figure out how to use this platform! I'm a fantasy author and love writing stories influenced by mythology and folk tales. I'm currently writing stories which are based in Japan with Shinto gods, magic, and supernatural yokai. I also write articles about these things too.

Hey booksky, I have some friends who could use some help getting their anthology out into the world. Support them if you can! 💙📚👀 www.indiegogo.com/projects/written-in-the-wind-a-short-story-anthology#/

I get to turn my #Pathfinder party's paladin against them, and he just keeps rolling 3s and 5s. I don't get to have any fun at all.
