Your regular reminder that the more often you own your mistakes, the easier it gets. It is like any muscle-- work it more and it gets stronger. All people mess up, and sometimes we do so publicly. It's not the end of the world to acknowledge that we missed the mark; it's how we clean up.

“Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic,” they said. “That means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice and a third, a fourth. Then what happens?”

Sometimes romance shifts from a mad passion to ‘hold the light so I can apply my skincare properly’ and then reading Reddit stories while it soaks in before bed. And it’s great.

People don't remember Timothy McVeigh because his extremism was sanitized into a generic anti-govt thing, and the links between his belief and white supremacy were erased in the retelling. I'm old enough to remember the OKC bombing and I didn't know the white supremacism bit until adulthood.

dammit alexa i said “play sister wives”

Fun medieval fact! The term 'Reply Guy' actually takes its name from Guy de Réplaille, a 12th-century abbot known for his prolific but inconsequential letters to multiple noblewomen

I'm going to keep saying this: A party that won't defend my child's rights is not a party to which I can belong.

fascism is stopped when enough people say one of two things: 1) "nah, I'm not doing that" 2) "nah, you're not doing that" a lot of people want to imagine how they'll say the second thing, but you should *really* start practicing the first one

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens. Don’t think it won’t happen again when they come for the “undocumented.”

"wow so many terms and concepts are Antisemitic you are just shutting down discussions" no you are living in the sins of one society, trying to fix the sins of another, while being unaware of many things because you aren't affected by either generations of hate. welcome to intersectionalism

Looks like Facebook fucked up its auth workflow. Auth cookies broken, logins not working. For a moment I felt a kind of relief at the idea that I could no longer use the platform, and that's a feeling that seems worth exploring.

We've seen endless protests out in front of the homes and businesses of Jews but I have yet to see a single protest in front of a Christian Zionist organization or church.

So uh…little bit viral there, this weekend. I’m glad y’all enjoyed my Neil story; he remains a delight and I’m glad to have closed the loop for him as well. I have other stories of shenanigans at both cons and at high school I may share later, but for now, here is a cat picture because Internet.

Ok, so. Back in 2002, my honors English class had us do, as a MAJOR part of the grade, a thesis on whatever topic we wanted. As a pretentious nerd, I decided, initially, to do mine on ‘how a story is written’. One of the first parts of this project was to assemble primary sources. 1/?

This skeet aged well!

My brain when Bel Biv Devoe starts performing "Poison" at the parade:

JUST IN: Massachusetts has made phone calls from jails and prison free. Bolts has learned that Governor Maura Healey informed state advocates today that she has signed this landmark legislation. We reported in August on why it matters: boltsmag.org/massachusett...

I cannot overstate enough how people minimizing the recent rise in antisemitism are helping the far right do their work for them. You may think you're helping progressives. You aren't. You are helping anyone who is invested in minimizing or justifying bigotry against Jews.

Quite a meteoric rise: in 2012 Clint Eastwood introduced an empty chair on stage at the Republican National Convention, and just eleven years later the empty chair defeats all other Republican contenders for Speaker.
