Where things stand now. Trump's approval numbers are underwater because his policies are unpopular (and Musk in particularly is wildly unpopular). But because Dem leaders are do-nothing, their popularity is sinking even faster. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

I've often insisted that we need to keep our eyes on Trump's actions more than his words (because so many of the words are bluster & lies). Now we have a genuinely dangerous action: a purge at the Pentagon, notably a purge of the top figures who can decide if Trump's commands are unconstitutional.

Trump is quickly losing popularity, his programs even moreso but the most unpopular thing in American politics right now is the do-nothing Democratic party leadership. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

"To marry a Jew was just dumb," -- William F. Buckley Jr., explaining why he and his family broke up the relationship of his sister Jane with a man she was passionately in love with, Tom Guinzburg (Buckley's roommate at Yale).

Trump is running NATO like a mafia protection racket -- so the question is, why don't Europeans take control of their own security? www.thenation.com/article/worl...

"liberalism in England...had become inseparable from imperialism as a political force uniting overt warmongers & ostensible pacifists in what proved a common suicide, as they plunged into the slaughter that would destroy the party whose hold on power they thought they were saving in 1914" P Anderson

If Democrats are going to fight Trump/Musk plutocracy, they have to also take on their own billionaire donors. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Far and away the smartest review f A Complete Unknown, but also, a brilliant telling of Dylan's evolution from a young aspiring folk singer & cultural sponge, the avant garde education he received from Suze Rotolo, his repurposing of Brechtian bitterness towards break-ups songs,

I liked the Timothee Chalamet movie where he plays the hoped for messiah who wields the strange power of The Voice & ends up betraying his ardent supporters & the women in life. (A Complete Unknown, 2024).

With growing alarm at the realization that Musk and his DOGE team now have the Social Security numbers, addresses, emails, incomes and details of every American, we speak with @jeetheer.bsky.social about his article at @thenation.com, “Who Will Stop Elon Musk’s Coup?” soundcloud.com/user-8304426...

1. Trump's goal of taking over Gaza (after Palestinians have been ethnically cleansed) is evil and deranged. It's also not going to happen, along with many other similarly crackpot, criminal goals: annexing Canada, Greenland, Panama Canal etc. These absurd goals are evidence of imperial decline

Critical reading even/especially for those of us feeling benumbed by all this

A huge indictment of how pathetic the Democratic response has been: even Doug Ford, a pea-brained rightwing lummox hoser who had to be shown how to use a laptop three years into his first term as Premier of Ontario, is doing a better job standing up to Trump (who is his hero!)

Genuinely good move on congressional Dems -- highlights that this is a coup, an attack on congressional power of the purse.

The biggest threat right now is Musk taking over Treasury data & IT with an aim to usurp congressional power of the purse. This is a real constitutional crisis, a coup happening before our eyes. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

1. Wall Street only slightly down: rightly assessing Trump's trade wars as bluster. Trump wants headlines showing he's fighting foreign foes and its been easy for target nations to diffuse situation with a few symbolic (even non-existent) concessions: Colombia, Panama, Mexico. x.com/GillianMorle...

Plenty of good reasons to reject Tulsi Gabbard -- too bad Senate hearing is focused on bad reasons. www.thenation.com/article/poli...
