I appreciate it when students have the levity to draw a picture or write a note on an exam question when they don’t know the answer

Ornithology biodiversity practical exam today had some empty stations with placeholders that students scribbled notes on. Some favs, "be the bird," "I like big birds and I cannot lie," and "you look like a bird-of-paradise today"

Had a great time with some ornithology students on a field trip this weekend. Mainly sea ducks in Gloucester MA area. These students (mostly pre-health) don’t get out in nature that often given our urban/suburban campus.

sad news - Duke University decided to dump their herbarium, which has over 800,000 plant specimens, one of the largest among in America, and includes many type specimens of Lady Gaga ferns. What a shame. Please stop Duke admins for making this horrible mistake!!
