Alport syndrome is an inherited disorder characterized by kidney disease, sensorineural hearing loss, and ocular abnormalities. In this review, the authors provide an overview of how genotype-phenotype-mechanisms are key for a precision medicine-based approach in the future. bit.ly/JASN0647 #ASNJASN

Regarding my February NIH Study Section meeting, I received this email overnight: Dear Dr. Miner, Our meeting will be held on Feb. 12 as planned. I am grateful for the lack of uncertainty, as my reviews are due shortly after the Super Bowl ends. My fingers are crossed.

Any anecdotal info on NIH Study Section meetings this week?

The proof is in the data: academic.oup.com/ndt/advance-... Cysts are not caused by Alport syndrome, though patients with Alport syndrome can have cysts.

To add insult to potential injury, this morning on The Today Show, @nbcnews.com showed the city of Brentwood, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area as threatened by fire, rather than the neighborhood of Brentwood in LA. Is this because of AI or LoI (Lack of Intelligence)?

Actually, I joined Twitter 12 years ago. Not X. It’s been a good run. Time to (gradually) move on.

Such an enjoyable evening!

Best wishes for the festive season from the Alport UK team! Thank you to all who volunteer, fundraise and offer their support throughout the year. Happy holidays everyone!

Happy Holidays from the Miner Lab et al.!

For all those who left X, a copy and paste: Congratulations, Hassan Saei! It was an honor to be on your PhD defense jury. I can't think of a better reason to go to Paris. Your work on ADTKD and #AlportSyndrome is first-rate! I look forward to seeing you at a conference in the future.

Thanks to uber-kidney geneticist Corinne Antignac for the tour of the Institut de France (the French NAS equivalent). I always wondered what that building was.
