Huge win for Perkins Coie, repped by Williams & Connolly, as Judge Howell eviscerates Trump's order banning the firm. ""I am sure many in the legal profession are watching in horror about what Perkins Coie is going through here." My take on @CNN app.frame.io/presentation...

Judge Howell enjoins enforcement of Trump executive order banning Perkins Coie law firm, saying that it violates the firm's first amendment rights. The legal profession is "watching with horror" what Trump is doing.

“Thanks to the decision in Trump v. United States, we may have reached the end of the era of the presidential scandal investigation—though not, to be sure, of the presidential scandal.” — @jeffreytoobin1.bsky.social

Pardons and payback are Trump's criminal justice agenda. My latest in @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2025/03/11/o...

Excellent @kenvogel piece about the pursuit of pardons in the current @realDonaldTrump Administration. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/08/u...

The SCOTUS Trump case ends the era of presidential scandal investigations. The Mueller and Watergate probes would have been off-limits. My story in @nybooks www.nybooks.com/articles/202...

Terrific @washingtonpost post review of my "riveting" new book, "The Pardon: The Politics of Presidential Mercy." Check it out. www.washingtonpost.com/books/2025/0...

History is more interesting when it ties into current events. That was definitely the case with my latest review for the @washingtonpost.com. @jeffreytoobin1.bsky.social's book tackled the Ford-Nixon pardon and its impact on the modern (ab)use of the pardon power.

My Bluesky has been un-suspended! So it's a good time to remind you that my book, The Pardon, is now out and available! From Trump to Biden to Gerald Ford, pardons have been x-rays into the souls of Presidents. See why. www.google.com/search?q=too...

Judge Dabney Friedrich orders pardoned Jan. 6 defendant Dan Wilson back to prison, rejecting his claim that Trump's pardon also covered his separate firearms-related convictions.

My book The Pardon: the politics of presidential mercy, will be published on February 11

I’m excited for you to hear my new audiobook, #ThePardon, an exploration of the use and misuse of the president's authority -- from Ford's pardon of Nixon to Trump and the J6 rioters. Learn more via @SimonAudio: bit.ly/4gTm1MG

My @airmail.news piece about the secret horror of the pardon professor. airmail.news/issues/2025-...

Trump's first-term pardons offered a preview of those of his second term. His actions were consistent with the transactional narcissism that characterized his approach to clemency during his first term. This is correct. It’s as if he was never charged so he and all pardon recipients are free to buy firearms.

Read @jeffreytoobin1.bsky.social 's review of my @umichlaw.bsky.social colleague Michelle Adams's important new book. Then go out and buy the book! www.nytimes.com/2025/01/13/b...

Biden rightly celebrates his legacy of judicial appointees, -- it's enormously important -- but he never gave a single interview on this subject, because his staff has hidden him from reporters for years. (Trust me, I asked, as did many others.)

Jimmy Carter is the only President to serve a full term and have no Supreme Court nominations. He told me he would have nominated the first woman Justice, Judge Shirley Hufstedler (9th Cir.), later his Education Secretary.

#aaronbrown was different from any other journalist, any other person, I've known. He had an extraordinary literary sensibility, but he understood video and pictures. No-degree intellectural. Casino evictee for counting cards at blackjack. Obsessive golfer. Farewell, dear friend.

Dorthy Moxley died. RFK Jr's cousin Michael Skakel killed her daughter Martha in 1975. RFK Jr wrote a horrible book about the case, blaming two innocent men for the murder. I wrote about it here. airmail.news/issues/2023-...

Toldja.

Biden's record on clemency is terrible. He has pardoned his son, but ignored many, many better cases for pardons and commutations. There are hundreds of good claims for clemency waiting on his desk for him to sign during his final days in office. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Biden's plan to meet the Pope next month suggests he is going to commute the sentences of all or most of the 40 people on federal death row. The Pope has already urged commutations.

There is less to the Biden clemencies than meets the eye. Not one person has been released from prison. All were already out.

I'm pleased to announce that my new book, "The Pardon: The Politics of Presidential Mercy," is now available for pre-order. It will be published in February 2025. It's feeling kind of topical, I think. www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Pa...
