Grateful to Silvia Casorran Martos, godmother of Superilles, and Manuel Valdes, Director of Autoritat del Transport Metropolità, for two days of Barcelona tours. Glad to talk success and failure, politics and recovery

This is how those of us of a certain age first learned about April 19, 1775. Still inspires. youtu.be/Y6ikO6LMxF4?...

Good Friday is the story of a man unjustly arrested and rushed to judgment. Diana Butler Bass tells it for our time, using only pictures from the last two weeks, and it hits so heavy open.substack.com/pub/dianabut...

Learned that March 18th saw 531,000 passengers, 7% higher ridership than the average ridership in March. It’s ~35,000 additional rides. I can’t say for sure how much of that is due to my SF Transit Operator Day Project. A huge thank you to everyone for riding Muni! www.sfmta.com/blog/thank-y...

Gràcies Barcelona Metro for making your ticketing system so welcoming to visitors and 1st time users, esp unlimited 2 3 4 & 5-day passes

Bless the Catalonians, who quickly switch from Catalan to Castilian for me, then patiently endure my dreadful Spanish until I cry uncle in English. Only then do they switch to fluent English. Because practice is the only way to learn

Street finds its own uses for Waymo's mobile on-demand job/sex/etc board. Pics of notes reportedly found in Waymo robots in San Francisco. I remember when Craigslist was a weekly email of SF 'happenings' and now the SF happenings robot to you. Story at link: www.msn.com/en-us/news/t...

Valencia a remarkable midsize city for mobility integration. Great bikeshare and protected bikeway network. Great integration among metro, light rail and bus. Transit ticketing system a surprising weakness for visitors

Really interesting article on autonomous vehicles (Waymo's robotaxis, here) and how they interact with pedestrians based on social norms and cues, rather than the law. Toxic in my view. HT @katjadiehl.bsky.social & @jackthurston.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

The new Great Highway park is a contentious flashpoint of an open space. But when you actually arrive the vibes are immaculate. 10 ways to explore Sunset Dunes, San Francisco’s newest park. My fun guide with @jachristian.bsky.social! 🌁☀️❤️ Gift link!! 🎁 www.sfchronicle.com/projects/202...

In my latest for @theflytrapmedia.bsky.social, I looked into why so many trans people are seemingly into transit and urban planning. Here's my report (subscribe for $25/yr to read): theflytrap.beehiiv.com/p/why-are-so...

Busman's Holiday continues to Valencia. Valencia makes it work because: 1. Modes separated, but all spaces shared 2. Everyone considerate to others 3. Low speeds everywhere 4. Pragmatic approach to ROW constraints

There’s a lesson here for every Big Law firm, university and media company if they care to learn it.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

The purpose of these tariffs is to be able to lift them to those who bow down to him and sacrifice their dignity. That is what he did to the GOP, the billionaires, and is doing now to Big Law. Those who stand up will be punished, those who bend a knee and humiliate themselves will be rewarded.

So would you break a nail to put these vault covers back in the right order? Asking for a friend - Plaça do Rossio, Lisbon

Lisbon's ~19th C transit infrastructure is glorious. Elevador de Santa Justa en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_J... and Ascensor da Bica are two of many urban elevators and funiculars en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascenso...

Almost every square or neighborhood park in central Lisbon has a quiosque (kiosk) that serves coffee, drinks and snacks. Often they're adjacent to an awesome playground. So kids and parents can both live best lives while in view of each other

It's overhyped, but Lisbon's "Pink Street" is an interesting intervention. Merchants, owners and city collaborate to move loading to early morning and cross streets. City adds simple art and paints street pink. 1/3

We're pumped for the new bike zone near the Great Highway & Sloat Boulevard! This all-ages park feature includes a pump track & skills area w/ rollers, jumps, & ramps. A special thanks to the SF Urban Riders & Friends of @oceanbeachpark.org for making this possible!

We're excited to share that a Nature Exploration Area has been installed as part of the effort to convert the Great Highway into a park. The new park feature has a logwork course made from downed trees from the recent storms, as well as 2 forest huts to inspire curiosity.
