I rarely ask for this kind of support on this platform, so bear with me :) We’ve received incredible support over since yesterday, but we’re still far from our goal. If you care about documenting this moment, please read about the campaign and help us by donating or sharing!

We’ve raised $120 so far, but there’s still a long way to go. Take a moment to check out our work at the link, and if you can, share this appeal with your friends and family!

Friends, this is urgent. @palestinestudies.bsky.social is documenting the destruction of Palestinian life and history to preserve the truth. We need your support to keep going. Every donation makes a difference. Please take a moment to give: palestine-studies.networkforgood.com/projects/247...

Yesterday, I reconnected with an old college acquaintance from Gaza. I asked how his family was doing. There was a brief pause. Then, in a quiet voice, he said, “I’m okay… but my wife and babies were killed. Our home was destroyed.” I was stunned. I didn’t know what to say.

People in Gaza are still collecting the skulls and decomposed remains of their children from beneath the rubble, while some fantasize about building a resort on their mass graves, and others gloat over a minority that refused to vote for the party that enabled a genocide.

Gaza today, and for now, disrupts and defies the global agenda of rendering entire populations disposable and rightless. This was achieved through the resilience of an entire population that has endured months of displacement, starvation, disease, and bombardment.

I’m from Gaza. It’s where I grew up, studied, and worked for most of my life. Since leaving, I’ve devoted years to writing, analysis, and activism to shed light on Gaza. I’m ready to join any media efforts to travel there, document, and report on the devastating impact of the war.

All deaths are tragic, but the most heartbreaking are those lost right before a ceasefire. Imagine surviving months of bombardment, disease, starvation, and displacement, only for a drone operator or pilot to take your life in the final moments—senseless killing until the very last second.

In 467 days, Israel has killed 46,788 Palestinians in Gaza (excluding thousands more whose deaths remain unreported, missing, or buried under the rubble) and injured 110,453 individuals.

According to Palestinian journalist Ahmed Hejazi, Hamas has just submitted its final response, agreeing to the draft agreement without any reservations.

In response to major progress made on the ceasefire agreement, Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich issued the following statement: “The emerging deal is a catastrophe for the national security of the State of Israel. 1/3

Every educational, academic, and cultural institution in Gaza where I studied, worked, or attended a conference or event—every theater, every archive, every historic landmark and site—has been completely destroyed. They no longer exist.

As a journalist & scholar, I’m inspired by @srseikaly.bsky.social’s words on @democracynow.org: “The way forward is not to be passive & obedient. The way forward is to be ethical & to stand for what is just & to stand against this Israeli genocide which—again—is armed & abetted by the United States”

Today, a resolution passed at the American Historical Association, by a margin of 428 to 88, condemning the Israeli scholasticide in Gaza. Here are my remarks for “The Palestine Exception: War, Protest, and Free Speech panel.” open.substack.com/pub/jehadabu...

Israel killed 184 people in Gaza in the past 72 hours.

In this piece, I tell the story of how Israeli archaeologists, with support from the Israeli Occupation Forces, "discovered" and looted a magnificent Egypto-Cannanite cemetery in my hometown of Deir el-Balah. substack.com/home/post/p-...

Hend writes about Dec. 15, 2024: Her brother looks for food while she studies for an exam, a strike kills dozens in the street, a drone buzzes above, ululations from a wedding nearby, heavy rain drowns tents by midnight, a dichotomy of lives in Gaza. www.palestine-studies.org/en/node/1656...

In 1996, a large Byzantine church was discovered in Jabalia, dating back to 444 AD. Among the findings were mosaics adorned with 16 inscriptions in ancient Greek. Before the genocide, this site had already suffered damage from airstrikes and the passage of tanks. One can only imagine its fate now.

As we bid farewell to 2024, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who follows my account, interacts, shares, and helps spread awareness about what is happening in Gaza. Please forgive me for any shortcomings—if I didn’t respond to a note or a message, or if I missed something from you.

I rarely open Facebook, but today I went through my friend requests and saw that some people from Gaza who had sent me requests are now gone. They’ve been killed, and people have already mourned them on their profiles. Facebook feels like a virtual funeral home. It’s unsettling.

Today, I came across a tweet from an Israel supporter questioning why people in Gaza are dying from cold temperatures. They placed the blame on regional governments, NGOs, and Palestinians for failing to provide the resources needed to endure winter conditions.
