"Research shows that a flexible understanding of numbers is strongly correlated to later math achievement and the ability to solve problems presented in different ways."

It's half term, which means I have a copy of Primary Reading Simplified to give away. Simply *repost* this post for your chance to win. I will choose a winner at random this Saturday (22nd February).

Today I learned that ancient Islamic maps have south at the top. This one from c1153 was snapped at the British Museum's silk road exhibition. It's stunning. Turn upside down for a more normalised world view. #EveryDayIsASchoolday #maps

Who is ready for Safer Internet Day? Here’s some picture books! #EduSkyPrimary

We have seen huge progress with our current cohort using Ashley Booth's approach to reading. More important though, our kids love the texts they read each day.Give him a follow. #EduSky #EduSkyPrimary #PrimaryEnglish.

If anyone's running staff training on building a classroom reading culture over the next few weeks, I've just added a session I delivered a few weeks ago to my Padlet. Lots of practical suggestions. Please feel free to download and use. padlet.com/Jon_Biddle/r...

By far the most powerful way to increase primary pupils' chances of becoming capable, confident mathematicians is to ensure they can rapidly recall single-digit addition facts (and their related subtraction facts) and multiplication facts up to 10x10 (and related division facts). 🪡⬇️

Word of the morning is ‘williwaw’ (19th century): a sudden violent squall or a toppling gust of wind. Goes well with ‘thunderplump’: a sudden downpour that soaks you to the skin in seconds.

Our book to inspire writing for next term is An Atlas of Imagined Islands by Huw Lewis-Jones. Kids will create their own islands, maps, and setting descriptions. Any other great ideas? #EduSky #EduSkyPrimary #PrimaryEnglish

One of the things that keeps me going back to Twitter is that I get fairly regular DMs on there asking me for advice about reading. Just to be clear: I am more than happy for people to DM on here for the same reason. Please repost this if you think this info might be useful to someone.

What a brilliant simple idea.

Lots of maths art around the school today celebrating #mathsweekengland. Fibonacci sequences and spirals, Mondriaan fractions and Kandinsky shapes to name a few. #mwe24 #edysky #eduskyprimary

Today for #mathsweekengland, my brilliant colleagues have been using story books to find the maths in them. Even the most disengaged children were enthusiastically joining in. #edusky #mwe24 #ukmathschat #mathschatuk
