I mean really, in many of the cases to which he refers, at the time to which he refers, EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN BRITAIN WHO VOTED LABOUR was doing so precisely and only because they anticipated exactly the thing that he says nobody saw coming, and wanted to prevent it.

Every single time Adam Curtis tells you that nobody predicted a thing, somebody on the Left definitely predicted that thing.

Fantastic discussion of clothes as (political) culture.

So I've watched ep. 1 of the New Adam Curtis, and here's the thing: Thatcher did not destroy British manufacturing industry by mistake. That is all you really need to know to understand what's wrong with this way of telling the story, but I'll elaborate a bit....

People have been bugging me to an episode of Culture, Power, Politics about Curtis for years. As God is my witness, I’ll do it this time.

Culture, Power, Politics will be hosting a seminar with Yves Citton on July 5th. All details: culturepowerpolitics.org/from-marx-to....

Fantastic podcast with great analysis. Many relevant lessons for leftists and everywhere.

I googled "desert storm" and Google's dipshit AI decided to incorrectly accuse me of spelling it wrong????

The Politics of Feeling with @benandersongeog.bsky.social comes out the 1st of July! So excited for readers and grateful for the lovely blurbs from Will Davies, @jemgilbert.bsky.social and @carolynpedwell.bsky.social

Discussing the meaning of superheroes with @kmilb.bsky.social on @novaramedia.com , I managed to misattribute the title 'Man and Superman' (it was a play by GB Shaw, not a Nietzsche book). Apart from that it's great- listen here or in any podcast app. novaramedia.com/2025/06/01/a...

In this #ACFM @jemgilbert.bsky.social and I explore the phenomenon of Superheroes. Why has the Superhero movie been so dominant for so long? What psychological and political desires do they fulfil? Are they an inherently reactionary concept? Or do they contain a liberatory potential?

Jeremy gets the main arguments just right, but by emphasising the origins of Blue Labour, misses Glasman's recent pivot to the far right, openly collaborating with Tories, Reform and Trumpians. Blue has become Turquoise Labour, if indeed there's much Labour left in it.

Great work on the GM's book @sirlarkins.bsky.social. Worth waiting 40 years for.

An absolute banger from Culture, Power, Politics. It's true, I DID go for the election analysis, and then got hooked by the ~2hr history of liberalism 😂

I really enjoyed this podcast with @jemgilbert.bsky.social and @profafinlayson.bsky.social I came to it for insights into British politics, I stayed for the regressions. But it was the discussion on the crisis of liberalism that kept me through it.

Spinoza and Feminism - a free online seminar with @hasanasharp.bsky.social @jasonread.bsky.social. June 14th, 17:00 BST. See this page for details: culturepowerpolitics.org/from-marx-to...

On this #ACFM Nadia Idle, @jemgilbert.bsky.social, and I discuss heroes. Does the left need new heroes? Can centrists be heroic if they oppose epic change? Why is the hero's journey myth central to the alt-right? With music from Bowie, John Lennon, and Sonic Youth. novaramedia.com/2025/05/18/d...

Look, it's long, so listen over a few sittings / strollings. But this history of liberalism and where we are now as a result (of its demise) is really good, entertaining, and incredibly helpful. Totally worth your time to help us understand wtf is going on now with Reform and Blue Labour

Unpicking the crisis of Neo Liberalism, why Labour are appeasing the far right & why there's a class war going on, not a culture war.

Here's me and @profafinlayson.bsky.social talking on a podcast. Come for the analysis of the UK local government election results; stay for the 300-year history of liberalism and its current, possibly terminal, crisis. culturepowerpolitics.org/2025/05/13/t.... You can listen online or subscribe.

On sale now! My book on new tenant organising, of which @jemgilbert.bsky.social said 'Renters Unite is a brilliant and inspiring analysis of the causes and possible solutions to one of the central issues facing people around the world today: the problem of housing' www.plutobooks.com/978074535001...

Let’s all freak out because Reform have a plurality while ignoring the fact that between them Lib Dems, Labour and Greens still have more support than Tories & Reform combined. Because there’s obviously no way a group of parties could ever figure out how to cooperate under such circumstances.

YouGov / Sky News / Times voting intention Reform 29 (+3), Lab 22 (-1), Con 17 (-3), Lib Dem 16 (+1), Green 10 (+1)

It turns out screaming at people then flinging your excrement at them is not appropriate behaviour at "Go Ape" The lifetime ban feels like an overreaction, given I offered to groom the injured parties.

I am, and always have been, politically Welsh. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

It’s literally this. It’s a bunch of people who would’ve been tories in the first place if they’d gone to different schools and universities, whose political identity and methodology was entirely defined by student union anti-socialism.

spot on

Once again. It is NOT the case that Starmer et al believe that moving right will actually win them more votes. The situation is that they have to move somewhere, and they rightly fear that moving left would weaken Labour First's control of the party. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Well he's done it. As a Labour member it's not my problem. As a fellow left populist, I'm more than intrigued to see where this goes. Meanwhile you can hear Zack talk about his policy platform and strategy at this even - June 4th - registration open. autonomy.work/forum-2029/

Is there no alternative to Reeves' austerity, Reform's reaction or the nightmare of Blue Labour? We all know there is. This project hosted by The Autonomy Institute will be an important step towards building it. First event June 4th - register now! autonomy.work/forum-2029/

Thanks to #ACFM for the rare pleasure of an intelligent discussion about relationships and sexuality. Also shout out to Sophie Lewis's Abolish The Family, where I first read about Kollontai. I'll post some of my advice resources below if you're affected by any of the themes in the show.
