I took a French Lit class (taught, spoken, and all discussion in French), and I had to translate a grand portion of “In Search of Lost Time.” This morning as I dunked a Madeleine in my coffee I experienced a very meta moment de Proust.

Rodolfo Castro added nothing to the team, but when they lost to the Dbags in ‘23 the camera caught him in the dugout, devastated and in tears. Teammates hugged and comforted him. It made me love him a little. Not many things trigger my maternal instinct, but that did.

In her later years my mom would cough for hours every morning from allergies. It was irritating, but part of a routine. I just paused as my husband was coughing down the hall and I was coughing over here, thinking that my son must be similarly and doubly irritated.
