If, like me, you are bummed about Semicolon Books in Chicago closing soon, consider backing their Kickstarter to open a new book cafe! www.kickstarter.com/projects/sem...

Attention Novelists πŸ‘€

Finished reading this gem over the weekend. A very enjoyable origin story for a villain who's a bit too much like certain politicians we all know. Dystopian fiction was more fun when it didn't overlap so much with current events. Still a great book.

This is the second time I've seen this in submission guidelines. It's just gross.

My micro story "Midway" is out in the world as part of Wordrunner's Micro-Prose Issue 2 ☺️ echapbook.com/micros/micro...

Finding it difficult to write stories right now, with existential dread and anger flowing through my veins... anybody feel me?

Recently had a short story accepted that had been rejected 18 times. And that's not even my personal record for most rejections for a single story. If you believe in your work, keep honing it and sending it out there until it finds a home.

BOOK MAIL! I'm excited to share a TOC with so many amazing horror writers in the Horror That Represents You anthology!

Delighted to be working with Kandisha Press!

Thank you Horror Writers Association for taking a stand against gen AI. - AI-generated works ineligible for Bram Stoker Awards - No AI in official HWA pubs, e.g. the HWA Poetry Showcase - HWA will revoke scholarships and membership if AI-generated work is used in the qualifying application.

What does the phrase "the living dead" mean to you? Zombies? Vampires? The "Night of the Living Dead" movies? Something else?

I've spent the past 12 days writing horror comedies. What fun πŸŽƒ

Once again I find myself in my annual December writing drought. Christmas prep, work, kids & their school events, two family birthdays, it adds up and occupies all my waking hours. The most I can manage is a few short story subs at 11pm before passing out. Can anyone relate?? #WritingCommunity

I have so many tabs open that my browser just laughs at me now

Shout out to my fellow writers who are also moms of small children. I know some of you feel this as much as I do πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Give me your favorite songs with horror vibes. I love Thriller as much as the next girl, but sometimes the subtle ones get under your skin more. Like: Ghost "Danse Macabre" (gothic eeriness) Audioslave "Like a Stone" (death) Maroon 5 "Animal" (stalking) Teddy Swims "Lose Control" (just plain creepy)

Excited to announce that my story "The Last Train" will be part of the Horror That Represents You anthology, coming this December from Brigid's Gate Press!

It's official, I've graduated from Affiliate to Active membership in the HWA. Here's to future hauntings πŸŽƒ

So Duolingo is writing horror now...

As someone who lacks the ability to "tune out" ambient noise (open-plan offices are THE WORST), this is amazing and I can't wait to see it on the market! news.mit.edu/2024/sound-s...

Finished reading this last night Still disturbed when I woke up this morning 😬

Me: I might be in my 40s, but I've still got it. I'm in good shape. I can hang! My body: Have more than one drink and I will punish you with a HEADACHE SENT BY THE HOUNDS OF HELL

Today I read this classic about a postpartum mother slowly losing her grip. It holds up really well for having been written in 1892, particularly the gaslighting... Thanks @monostich.bsky.social for the rec!

What are your favorite horror books/movies/short stories/episodes that deal with losing one's sanity or one's grip on reality? Think Session 9, The Shining, Black Swan, The Machinist. I'm writing something in this vein and want to study where it's been done well.

Morning #WritingCommunity! Has anyone in my sphere worked with any of the agents in United Talent Agency (UTA)'s publishing division? Looking for a reference. Thanks!

Weekend writers conference starts tonight and I'm two parts excited and one part freaking out! Any tips from you veteran writers and conference-goers out there?

Being a short story writer has prepared me well for querying my novel. The same cardinal rules apply. Thou Shalt Not Take Rejections Personally. Thou Shalt Not Overthink or Dwell on Any One Submission. In fact, if thou findst thyself dwelling, Thou Shalt Immediately Send Out 10 More Subs!
