I'm filled with a sudden desire to visit Maine:

Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position. You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

Worst. Episode. EVER.

Since I’ve been getting this a lot - if you feel like supporting me by buying a jersey or something, I would rather you make a donation to Trans Lifeline or The Trevor Project www.thetrevorproject.org

Longer article here, which has a nice picture of my book, so: winteriscoming.net/the-murderbo...

after hearing from several of you last night, i think i have a general structure for this. it's subject to change based on feedback, but if you're a current, fired, or currently-being-litigated federal worker, i want to hear from you. here are the details.

Unfortunately you have to primary everyone, not just because they don't have what it takes to fight, but because they don't have what it takes to rebuild. Last thing you want is them to win by default and then tread water until the next Trump comes to power

Every Friday we get a news story that’s like Trump Administration declares a return to meritocracy, fires African American scientist with 30 years experience overseeing germ disease laboratory with Trent “Jizzman” Spunkmyer

Called Schiff, Padilla, & our local congressman about the USPS and other BS. Felt good.

This is really something

Stop. STOP. It's getting so ridiculous. *throws the script out the window*

Just FYI replacing words with emojis isn't a great choice for accessibility. Even outside of the fact that screen readers aren't meant to be code breakers, people are using mobile phones to read. Your tiny emoji might not be easy to see and interpret. Also, not everyone is current on all emoji subs.

Oh no! Musk chainsaw wrong thing!

Must be the season of the witch.

Update: The White House is already backing down on this. Keep calling your reps. Keep pressuring them. Along with your reps, the white house phone number is (202) 456-1111. Use 5calls.org to get all your reps in one place along with a guide. www.nysun.com/article/whit...

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

One more week for our BIPOC-only short story collection call! We haven't received many submissions yet, and we'd love to read yours. If you've been going back and forth about submitting because you're not sure your book will be a good fit, send it in anyway: cursedmorsels.com/submission-c...

Just a word on this @wired.com team — I work with these folks and even with one foot in from the outside, I’m astounded at how many impactful scoops are flying out of the joint left and right. Subscribe, support, buy the merch — do what you gotta do, but this is a fuckin’ good place for your dollar

Again I am begging people in the media to note the legality of these actions in their headlines or blurbs. A post office is literally written into the constitution.

The first reaction to this news should be concern about the future of voting by mail www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Our CONSTITUTION gives CONGRESS the power to establish post offices and postal roads. Article 1, section 8, clause 7.

By the way, this is one of the issues where you might be able to make some headway with GOP reps if you live in a rural district. It has always been the heavily red rural districts that stopped them from destroying USPS in the past. Reps know their constituents depend on USPS.

I keep trying to tell y'all that ProPublica is out here lapping most other outlets. Them, Wired, and the Texas Observer.

Priced out of property

Something I wish educators would grapple with more is the environmental cost of genAI/AI. Even beyond LLMs, at the high school level, there really isn't anything our students are doing that is so important they need to burn down the rainforest and drain the local water supply for.

NO. I refuse to have Gemini. I already went through each gmail account and specifically turned it off. Today it turned itself back on.

Hey everybody, you might want to go to these two links and turn everything off.

Tech press keeps showing up for this moment (also, you should support 404 — they’re great)

Friend just confirmed via text she's putting her cat down and Apple Intelligence just suggested I respond "haha I feel you."

One danger of embracing generative AI as a learning device and in language assistance is that you're letting the keepers of that AI have power over what you learn and how you write. It will be programmed with biases, unintentional but often *quite* intentional, that you will unknowingly adopt.

I have gin

It's good to take a moment to remember that this app would not exist if not for Elon Musk. He will always be our King George, the tyrant whose long train of abuses pushed us to try something better. Simply by flourishing here, we rebuke him. Every good vibe here will always be a stick in his eye.
