Our faculty room microwave was curious but at least had a functioning display, which allowed me to easily figure out how the system worked. (And then I posted a 'key' for colleagues.) The broken display sounds next level annoying. jennalaib.com/2024/01/03/m...

Amazing! A thoughts and prayers microwave! Maybe some students want to take on cracking the code. 🙃

I was born an Orlin, married a Laib! ✨ Here was my first appearance on Ben’s blog: mathwithbaddrawings.com/2013/05/07/w...

Yes! Ben is my brother. (We also have another brother who didn’t go into the “family business” of math ed.) I am biased, but I will affirm that our parents were, in fact, amazing. And I love that your students dig deep into data visualizations! 😍 (even/especially when it’s impractically deep!)

YESSS. Ben asked me yesterday about a potential MN visit this summer… and ten is my lucky number…

Last year, I used a “Transition to Algebra” unit from 2014 that hinged on data about iPods. You would have loved to be a fly on the wall as I led the discussion about that with 8th graders. 😭

Agreed! Also they’re zaggy. I run more in a straight line.

And on smartboards, it doesn't matter as much! While the smartboards in my school occasionally drive me crazy -- the glare! -- I do like that I can write in white effectively. :)

One of my favorites for first grade is the sound one: slowrevealgraphs.com/2022/04/22/h... Also this one about animal eyes: slowrevealgraphs.com/2024/06/17/n... And baby teeth! slowrevealgraphs.com/2024/02/26/c...

Also: I just realized that you're a Canadian, and you made us this graph about American society. :) I assume it would be pretty similar in Canada.

Thank you so much! It's live now: slowrevealgraphs.com/2025/02/09/w... (I added a light color version with your questions to make it easier to annotate, but the dark color scheme is prettier)

Yes!! 🙌🏼 I have several saved in a folder to make, but everything is moving soooo fast. (I did get out one about presidential pardons right after it happened, but that feels like five lifetimes ago?)

ah perfect! thank you. <3 Something I am thinking about if/when I come up for air is gathering a team of folks #onhere to create slow reveal graphs of the many dumpster fires occurring in real time for teachers to use to create spaces for discussion in the classroom.

But this one that you tagged is more clear! (People don’t like the y axis on the one I use in presentations 😜 ) I’ll give it a try later!

There’s this related one from 2022: slowrevealgraphs.com/2022/08/23/h... And I’ve used this other graph in presentations, but never gave it the slow reveal:

Catching up now and I love this one! Is it cool if I add it to the site? Thanks! Hope you're having a great start to the semester.

Yes! My father (not in the 6-12 space) emailed me to say that he read it and it’s well done!
