I’m lucky to support the work of the NGA in launching a Public Safety Executives Consortium. It’s a no-nonsense, solutions-oriented, evidence-based space for leaders from states across the country & across parties. See @arnoldventures.bsky.social story here: www.arnoldventures.org/stories/stat...

Absolutely love to see this! Cambridge should allow more people to live near its jobs, parks, shops, restaurants, & public transit. (No, that doesn’t include historic parking lots.) Allowing midrise housing citywide is a great start.

Cambridge city council just legalized midrise apartments citywide. Last summer, MA legislature legalized ADUs in residential areas statewide. Both policies make it easier to build homes of varying shapes & sizes but differ in specifics. Let's use clear, accurate language to describe policy changes.

This year's Econ job market has, by all accounts, been brutal. If you're still not sure what you're doing next year, applying for external funding to continue your work is a great way to buy yourself time & options. It's a way to "build your own post-doc." Check out AV's open RFPs!

The @arnoldventures.bsky.social Criminal Justice team will soon launch a monthly newsletter! Subscribe here to get fresh CJ research, policy, and advocacy developments delivered to your inbox. I promise we'll keep it interesting.🥳 www.arnoldventures.org/subscribe

Cool job alert: Chief, Data Analytics and Research Team (DART), at the NYC Criminal Justice Agency drgtalent.com/wp-content/u...

The newest Probable Causation (@jenniferdoleac.bsky.social) discusses a fascinating paper on exactly this topic. It was such an interesting listen (see next post for a link)

Terrific post-doc opportunity (funded by AV to help with our evidence-based policy work!):

This study considers economic abuse/coercive control as a precursor to physical violence in relationships. Another chapter in a fascinating & consequential research agenda, from a dream team of economists! Check out my interview with Abi Adams for more. www.probablecausation.com/podcasts/epi...

Reminder that @arnoldventures.bsky.social has several research funding RFPs open at the moment. If you’re working on causal research, let us help! www.arnoldventures.org/grantees

I've spent the past 2 weeks deep in AV's CJ work, preparing materials for upcoming board meetings. It's extremely motivating to see the cool work y'all are doing (and that we're hoping to facilitate). Creative ideas for other ways we can be spurring more and better research are always welcome.

NIJ and other federal agencies have paused research funding, but @arnoldventures.bsky.social has not! Check out our open RFPs. We're looking for causal studies across a range of issues, including crime/criminal justice. www.arnoldventures.org/grantees

That's what ended up doing via the @snsf-ch.bsky.social and I could not be happier working with @jayvanbavel.bsky.social! I definitely recommend giving these funding schemes a shot!

Back by popular demand! We just released another call for proposals using RCTs and quasi-experiments. 3-page LOIs are due March 14. Details here: bit.ly/4ambjv3 (1/2)

Yes—I get many postdocs this way. If you want to apply for a fellowship to do a postdoc at NYU email me.

I’ve always wondered why we don’t have more of this kind of thing that they do in the health sciences

I started my career on soft money like this! There are some major upsides and more people should know about this route in psych, econ, polisci etc

Academic job market candidates: Did you know you can "make your own post-doc" by applying for external research funding? Many/most departments would be happy to provide office space to someone who brings their own funds.

Wonderful interview on The Political Orphanage - one of my favorite podcasts. 😍 The topic: What have Laura Arnold & @johnarnoldfndtn.bsky.social learned about how to effectively donate your time & money to make the world better? A great primer on our work at AV. open.spotify.com/episode/4XFu...

By far the high point of my career—thank you to everyone who made this happen!❤️

One of my labor econ profs told us being a good labor economist implies the ability and inclination to imagine many plausible interpretations of an observed relationship.

Finally got to meet @jmwooldridge.bsky.social in person (at AV party, thanks @jenniferdoleac.bsky.social!) Talking about the move to @bsky.app (and poisson DID).
