I joined Mike Pesca of The Gist podcast @milkepescs.bsky.social to discuss all things Eric Adams and DOJ/SDNY - check it out! urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=htt...

Nick Akerman, an ex-Watergate and SDNY prosecutor, wants to file an amicus brief opposing dismissal of the Eric Adams corruption case—and asking the judge to haul Emil Bove into court and possibly sanction him for "making improper and unethical demands." Doc https://buff.ly/416cCKD

Important statement standing up for the rule of law from the NYC Bar Ass’n, where I serve as a member of the Board of Directors. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

Fun fact: in addition to his many years of public service at the state and local levels, years ago Chauncey Parker was an AUSA at the SDNY.

ATTN probationary feds: if you’re too new to have a performance eval and your sups are friendlies, ask them for an interim evaluation and keep a hard copy.

Making sure folks realize that Alex Spiro is both Musk’s attorney and Eric Adams’ attorney.

Strong letter from AUSA Hagan Scotten resigning his position at SDNY. Emil Bove’s former colleagues directly slamming his unethical behavior is really something.

This is outrageous. Bove explicitly wrote that Sassoon and the line AUSAs had done nothing wrong in the Adams case, but now that she resigned in protest he is referring all of them for ethics review. This vengeful bully routine will not end well for Bove during his own inevitable ethics review.

Just to underscore the tension at DOJ at the moment, here's what one federal law enforcement official told me about the acting deputy attorney general: "I, along with other career FBI and DOJ personnel that I’ve spoken with, really have one message for him and that is, “go fuck yourself, traitor.'"

UPDATE The New York Times is now reporting that two other officials have joined Sassoon in resigning. Officials who oversee the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section: Kevin O. Driscoll and John Keller.

Good for Danielle Sassoon. It’s symbolic - DOJ will find someone to dismiss the case - but she stood up for her people, their work, and the independence of the office. All very worthy points to make in the face of the enormous damage Trump is doing to the rule of law. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/n...

Sometimes you hate to be right. My follow up with @mimirocah1.bsky.social about the end of SDNY independence aka Eric Adams case dismissal. contrarian.substack.com/p/the-corrup...

“No American can be proud of a govt that carries out change in this way. Neither can these actions be rationalized by discussion of past grievances or appeals to efficiency. Everything can be more efficient, but adherence to the rule of law is paramount” www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

The hypocrisy knows no bounds www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...

I wrote the below with my former SDNY colleague Mimi Rocah to draw attention to an existential threat to the office we revere. Please check it out.

It’s not just that Trump DOJ is pressuring SDNY to drop a legit corruption case, it’s being done in a corrupt underhanded way. My latest open.substack.com/pub/contrari...

Trump’s firing of federal IGs is designed to hobble the only internal independent oversight of the executive branch, in violation of the very law passed bc he improperly fired some IGs during his first term. wapo.st/3Cptwvg

Mangione was charged federally by complaint. He will be assigned a district court judge upon indictment by the grand jury. The district judge will oversee all proceedings from then on, including discovery issues and any motions to suppress etc. Magistrates just do initial presentments and bail.

Who will be the next AG pick?? Here are some lawyers Trump likes (excluding disbarred ones and those under indictment - although he *might* go there): Alina Habba, Jonathan Turley, Janine Pirro, Trey Goudy, Alan Dershowitz, Jay Sekulow, Joe DiGenova, Victoria Toensing. Jim Jordan (did he pass bar?)

Gaetz must *really* not want that ethics report and the information in it to become public.
