#DataPrivacyWeek2025 Tip 💡 Personal information being tracked online? You can enable an opt-out preference signal (OOPS)--OOPS provides a simple and easy step to opt-out of the sale and sharing of your PI without having to make individual requests to each business.

Grateful for Sen. Josh Becker’s leadership during #DataPrivacyWeek on the Delete Act and other legislative work--and today, for his video reminder (linked) of how essential privacy is in our digital world, and helpful tips for protecting privacy. x.com/i/status/188...

My heart is still breaking for the fur babies displaced by the LA fires. Here's a live google doc of animals lost & found. Please repost it. You never know what will help people find their beloved pets.

Firefighters from Mexico just arrived at LAX. They'll be joining 14,000+ personnel already battling the #PalisadesFire. California is immensely grateful to our neighbors' support in the fight against the wildfires in Los Angeles.

1000X this! I was so sorry to miss this wonderful event. Thank you @marklemley.bsky.social for all your mentorship, to me, and many, many, many others--and @ericgoldman.bsky.social and the rest of the Scholarship Section for the brilliant thought to recognize mentorship, and for beginning with Mark.

Due to the devastating wildfires impacting so many Californians, the California Privacy Protection Agency has extended the formal public comment period on its current proposed rulemaking package to February 19 at 6pm PST. We will also host an additional public comment hearing in February.

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come. ‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair. Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Entering the US public domain tomorrow, #PublicDomainDay: All works from 1929 and sound recordings from 1924. 🥳 Highlights include Faulkner’s “The Sound & the Fury,” Virginia Woolf’s “A Room of One’s Own,” & Mickey Mouse’s first talkie. web.law.duke.edu/cspd/publicd...

Ingenious and beautiful

I'm immensely proud of the CPPA team who "firmed up a process to let people delete data from brokers" and who now are working on implementation to make it easier still. Congratulations to the team--your work is a Good Thing!

So pleased to recognized the CPPA's outgoing ED, Ashkan Soltani, and his vision, energy, and extraordinary service at today's CPPA Board meeting. Thank you to Asm. Lowenthal, Sen. Becker, and Sen. Umberg for this part of the event--a legislative resolution commending his service!

Applications close tomorrow--consider applying, and spread the word!

Stunning development in scholarly publishing. NYPL will be digitizing "entire out-of-print backlists" of multiple academic presses and making them available. The Scholarly Press Backlist Revival project shows a striking thoughtfulness in overcoming perceived and real IP and contractual barriers.
