Power to the students

oh cool they’re already losing people on their way to the overseas torture prison.

missed this a few days back (HBCUs not getting coverage, big surprise) but the default for university admins now on any issue is bullying, mistreating, & ignoring their students then calling in the cops to beat & arrest them if they persist in political speech www.wral.com/news/educati...

somebody knows who these people are. they have names and addresses and things they care about

also they are very pointedly doing this in charlottesville, right inside the courthouse that has been processing unite the right torch marchers and just yards away from where this confederate statue stood till 2020. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_Read... this isn't even a kidnapping, it's a lynching

If folks want to ask what they have to say on this matter: Mark Warner +1 (202) 224-2023 Tim Kaine +1 (202) 224-4024

So the NIH is now declaring that you can’t engage in first amendment protected rights if you are funded by them. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide... Would be a shame if people used the email address in the notice to express their first amendment rights.

for my entire life i have simply never understood how anyone reading this can be convinced this is an antisemitic statement

Men in plainclothes, one in a balaclava, raided the Charlottesville courthouse today. They abducted a local painter whose case (allegedly fighting with his roommate) was being dismissed, and another who was there paying fines. They took them away in unmarked vans. dailyprogress.com/news/local/c...

never forget that we’re currently facing total economic destruction because fox news got upset about 0.0001% of our population wanting equal rights

A colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond. I hope you’ll read and share the piece. stanforddaily.com/2025/04/22/w...

The administration’s war on DEI is actually a war on basic medical research.

*suspicions intensify*

“In the last 18 months of his life, Pope Francis had a frequent evening ritual: He would call the lone Catholic church in the Gaza Strip to see how people huddled inside were coping with a devastating war. That small act of compassion made a big impression on Gaza’s tiny Christian community.”

“Older Black Americans are twice as likely as white patients to develop [dementia]. Just as it is not illegal to research breast cancer in women, Mezuk said, it should not be illegal to research dementia in Black and lower-income white Americans.” www.michigandaily.com/news/researc...

Two headlines in the New York Times today.

You can't report on this garbage without informing readers of the literal identical policy under Hitler. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/u...

If conservatives were actually interested in viewpoint diversity, they probably wouldn’t be demolishing the research of people with whom they disagree. Just a thought.

Seen people sharing the NYTimes piece on proposed GOP incentives to more births. Not being discussed: equal pay, affordable childcare. Being discussed: $5000 per kid, education about fertility. Missing: these programs were inspired by Viktor Orbán's/Hungary. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

our brains are full of microplastics, liberal democracies are dying, and the US doesn’t believe in health care or science or education or free speech or equity but, sure, our uterus-having sorts are not having kids bc we ::checks notes:: don’t know how ovulation works.

This is how you do it.

Once you understand that their goal is to get women, LGBTQ folks and people of color out of public life, everything gets clearer. You should evaluate their *policy* proposals accordingly.

If Hegseth resigns and we get an Acting Secretary of Defense, it'll be the eighth time we've had one. One came under Nixon, a second under GHW Bush. And then we had *five* under Trump.

the glee with which extremely privileged people are gutting everything that resembles an investment in the common good is just… so… 🤬

The Norton Library edition of my translation of the Iliad, with stylish red cover, is now available. It has complete text, maps, notes, introduction and translator's note, and it's yours for under $10 (as are many other tempting Norton Library volumes). wwnorton.com/books/978132...

NIH bans funding to all institutions with DEIA programs or that boycott Israel. Applies prospectively to new, renewal, supplement, or continuation awards issued on or after the date of this Notice. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

This is so cool!

Breast cancer diagnoses rose by over 300% between 1973 and 1992. Was there a breast cancer epidemic?! NO. Mammograms were implemented for screening in 1976. PREVALENCE is a function of being able to correctly diagnose something. This is also about autism.

See this is what I mean. Mississippi is a state with a 40% Black population. African American candidate Mike Espy garnered nearly 45% of the vote in the 2020 General Election for the U.S. Senate. Why isn’t there a 10 yr Dem plan for organizing Mississippi? Why concede the state w/a 40% Black pop?

Your friendly reminder that it is literally a federal felony punishable by up to five years in prison for the President, Vice President, or any employee of the White House to directly or indirectly ask the IRS to open an investigation into any specific taxpayer.

And it's obvious that border patrol's claim that he admitted to illegally entering was a complete lie, and thus any other time they claim someone admitted to illegal entry should be deemed noncredible

Here's the secret of "university indoctrination." Professors aren't doing it. Your little darlings are finally meeting a diverse group of people and realising that the stereotypes you've been feeding them are closed-minded garbage.

extremely savvy Democratic pollster: don’t talk about due process, it’s not a winning issue. Joe Rogan:

Honestly, me too.

Sign of the day…

Turns out you can shape the agenda with dramatic action and maybe even shift public opinion. Crazy.

Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. May his memory remind us all to resist the tyranny forming in our government.

this is the first ad I see in the linked story. 🤦‍♀️

an unexpected but oddly pleasant spike of nostalgia 🤣

“Department of Government Efficiency.”

Yall.

The government isn't doing universities a favor by channeling federal funding through them. It's using a private entity to realize public goals, to accomplish things that benefit the entire nation. You'd think conservatives who call for privatization all the time would grasp that.
