Wondering if the iPhone dictation mode allows you to steer it away from biasing itself towards proper nouns. I am tired of the word “not”being autocorrected to “Nott” - and hundreds of other equally frustrating examples that can’t just be because of my American accent…

We would like to sincerely apologise to you all.

Did so much good work on our lab’s manuscripts this weekend that I’m treating myself to a little break in the summerhouse. Can’t remember the last time I was able to relax a little bit on a weekend. I’m using this time to study for my foundation amateur radio license – exam on Saturday! #academia

Interesting food for thought - also makes me realise that the common abbreviation for chronic UTI (also cUTI) isn't very helpful

Sitting on a delayed DB train outside Frankfurt right now and can hard confirm - it’s been a shambles my whole trip

Nearly showtime! I’m looking forward to presenting our lab’s #UTI research at the 3D Tissue Infection Symposium 2025 in beautiful Würzburg #UTISky

“Lab Girl” being censored is baffling. I’ve read this wonderful work; nothing offensive in it whatsoever — unless showing that women can be scientists is no longer “appropriate content” for children?? Everyone go buy a copy in protest. My 2016 review in Nature👇 www.nature.com/articles/532...

Some of my tulips are getting chewed…. Not by slugs but something else. Anyone have any ideas?

Bad moon rising

One of those days when my biggest goal was simply to write a to-do list (just for today, as I already have an uber-list) and I didn’t find the time to manage it. The furthest I got on three occasions was uncapping my pen. Now heading home for a well-deserved drink. Happy Friday to all who celebrate!

Good to see sun and shadows in Bloomsbury after a long week of grey

When I brought this up a few weeks ago, some people were like, nothing to worry about

Vaccines are so woke

Photo of two boys - one vaccinated against smallpox, the other not - published in 1901 by Dr. Allan Warner. Smallpox killed over half a billion people in the 20th century alone. On 8 May 1980, the WHO announced its eradication, which was achieved through #vaccines, surveillance, and containment.

This tutorial room in the UCL Faculty of Laws has wooden walls and a fireplace! Must have been amazing to teach in here back in the day, all cosy and warm in winter

Here it is 😉 #UTISky

I know it's cliche, but since today's the International day of #WomenInScience, I'm looking back at my visit to the Marie Curie museum in Paris. I didn't want to be a scientist because of Marie Curie specifically, but because of I knew I *could.* Being in her lab was pretty magical.

Stonking great letter, Stephen - I have signed!

This is a room where we turn very modest salaries and budgets (and lots of coffee) into new knowledge, life-saving innovations, and technology that feeds business growth. It's literally the loom that spins hay into gold but these numpties are suddenly worried about the cost of hay.

On this celebratory day of women and girls in science, let’s reflect that the US National Science Foundation has put the words “women” and “female” (but not “men” and “male”) on the list of forbidden words that will get your grant slated for the reject bin.

BREAKING The Trump administration is maintaining a funding freeze at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in defiance of two federal court orders. The ongoing freeze was confirmed by an NIH official and internal correspondence reviewed by Popular Information.

I was worrying about this before it was cool
