LOL - my book's a sleep thief! (and I'm happy about it :) ) Glad you're enjoying the new world

Thanks Gizmodo for this lovely interview.🧪

Stars bless the "discard" button on Bluesky. It has saved me so much regret :)

🏺In Raphael's letter to Leo X (1519) he despairs on the degradation of #Roman antiquities through their use as quarries. 📐 Raphael, also an architect, made a detailed survey plan. 🎬 Learn more in RAPHAEL: A PORTRAIT, ideasroadshow.com/raphael/ 🗃️ #arthistory #architecture #archaeology #FindsFriday

And now it's safe to follow me again. I've finished philosophizing :)

I worry about people who embrace spite for motivation. I've found it always blinds me to consequences. Compassion, directed to myself and others, provides greater clarity.

"Love your neighbor as yourself." Those of us who struggle to love ourselves are baffled by the 2nd commandment. Why would we be so mean to others? But think of the sociopaths in the world for whom other people aren't real. "See other people as people."

Is Australia doing this? Because I miss buttons & dials. The other day I was even missing the old, old days when changing TV channel meant getting up and twisting the knob. *If I was to lose the TV remote I'd be inconsolable, but nostalgia isn't always rational.

@shadowlightfx.bsky.social thanks for reposting - and your bio is wonderful!

@lorecrystal.bsky.social thanks for the kind repost :)

My #NewRelease post on Caldryn.com What does an author reward herself with when she has a new book out? Other people's books! caldryn.com/new-release-...

Launching a new series is nerve-wracking. Stars Die - Recalled from the frontier, the new Warden of Caldryn Parliament is well aware she’s not a popular choice, but she never expected to portal into a murder scene. www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXMQQT8J #scifi #mystery #fantasy

My new book series has its own website. I'll be blogging there weekly on writing & publishing as well as book recommendations. And, of course, about Caldryn Parliament itself. caldryn.com

The most misguided assumption of all time: “Perhaps you'd like to say a few words?”

Golden Age Mysteries in the Realm of SciFi & Fantasy #NewRelease Stars Die - out today! Imagine a magic parliament... #booksky www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXMQQT8J

Amazon just emailed me. My new #fantasy #mystery novel is now live! Stars Die www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXMQQT8J

The birth of steampunk: the legendary and prophetic science fiction work of French illustrator and author Albert Robida, published in 1885. Wonderfully illustrated, it depicts life in the 20th century. Aerial travel, video communication, floating sky palaces and equal rights for women.

Me, brain in an early morning blur: Oooh that's an interesting flaw on the webpage. Why is it crawling upward? ::long moment of my subconscious nudging the supposedly conscious brain to wake up:: Oh! It's a real bug! Shoo! go away!!

I'm reposting for the article's title. Seriously cool. Cane toads, not so much.

My new book, "Stars Die", is already out in Australia! Woohoo! Only a few more hours till Amazon makes it live everywhere in the world! This is a mystery novel, a fantasy novel, and there are hints of scifi (to be developed later in the series). Enjoy! www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DXMQQT8J

Turns out we sleep longer than people living in small non-industrial societies, like hunter gathererers, tho our daily rhythms are more out of sync 🧪 This suggests we get more sleep than our ancestors did, contrary to all the claims of a "sleep loss epidemic" www.newscientist.com/article/2469...

How selfish are we really? Why organisms help one another? How has society necessitated altruism? I'm going to refill the coffee mug and vanish into #amwriting My fictional world looks mighty appealing right now

Just shut FB feed after a Zuckerberg post popped up. I certainly didn't ask to see it. Do not follow him. Nor is it labeled advertising. It's such a little thing to make me so mad, & yet, it's not little, is it? As an author I try so hard to reach people & FB throttles reach, yet for Mark...

On a flight home, Caitlin Shetterly told the man next to her that after 9/11, flying made her nervous. Then the man told her something she'll never forget: "Most people are good."

i think "an effective altruist is personally denying twenty million people their HIV medications despite a court order telling him to send the money" is a pretty good summary of effective altruism as a real world philosophy

::squints at Wednesday:: Yesterday's headache is hanging in there like a trooper. It's warm, humid weather here and my sinuses are not happy. But apart from that... hmm ::contemplates state of the world:: Hmm

Currently #listening I don't do video (at the moment). Interesting tho

Writer friends are discussing how to enrich your writing, and my go to advice is read more poetry.* Which made me think of these gorgeous lines from W. S. Graham's Sgurr Na Gillian Macleod *Also I should take my advice right now

During the upcoming Rome nature summit, countries have to agree on a plan to channel billions into biodiversity conservation. But escalating geopolitical and trade disputes, and the new administration in the US, will make reaching a deal even harder. 👉 www.politico.eu/article/gree...

Exciting news! I know we’re not The Rest is Politics, or The News Agents, but I hope the Disorder pod has its own niche. We’re doing a live event at RUSI on 11 March. Please come - and hear me rant in person, v undiplomatically - about Trump, Brexit etc ! open.substack.com/pub/natoandt...

Good grief! Having switched to "Classic" Microsoft 365 to get rid of Copilot, I still had to go into Word & click Options to find Copilot & click OFF the auto-enabled Copilot box. Now, I am finally (maybe temporarily) free of the annoying "paste with Copilot" message while editing.

On the day I woke with a headache, my neighbour woke with the desire to use his powertools. From 6:30am. And he has me so well trained that my first thought was gratitude. He often starts 30 mins earlier. Huge sigh.
