A big power company wants to build a huge industrial complex near Paranal, the top astronomical site in the world (VLT, ELT etc.). Here is a petition for physics/astro professionals πŸ§ͺπŸ”, please consider signing. Even if you're not, pls help raise awareness by sharing the links in the petition. Thx! πŸ™

Learning about meeting astronauts at science museums, in Spanish. The adult, Eddy, is very excited - for him astronauts are Apollo era heros. The child, Junior, is not - for him anyone can be an astronaut if they are rich enough.

Ok so National Astronomy Week 2025 is done and dusted! This event runs about every 4-5 years, and only when there's something awesome for people to look up at. Any bright ideas what we should feature for the next event?

Throwback to how the Moon looked on the first day of National Astronomy Week. How will it look tomorrow, on the last day? And where will it be? (Somewhere exciting!)

πŸ” Only one weekend of National Astronomy Week left, but there are a load of events still to go, including stargazing events, planetarium shows, online talks, and telescope streaming: astronomyweek.org.uk/events/ βœ¨πŸš€πŸͺ

Beautiful photograph for #nationalastronomyweek . I can spot Mars and Orion, can you?

Great photo of today's National Astronomy Week theme: Jupiter! #nationalastronomyweek #lookup

We're doing it all again for National Astronomy Week tonight, live-streaming images of the night sky. Join us at 7pm. astronomyweek.org.uk How's your Chase The Moon PDF coming on?

Happy "Microsoft trying to force CoPilot subs" day in the UK for all who celebrate. (They just pinged me my renewal notice with it carefully worded to sound like a compulsory general price increase). 1) Go to your account page 2) Hit cancel 3) Change sub back.

If anyone is filling in their Chase the Moon chart but missed seeing it last night, cosmos4u's has captured a perfect view of it's location between the planets (click to see the full photos). Then join the dots in a big circle to find the ecliptic. astronomyweek.org.uk/4-february-t...

The Moon has left Venus far behind. But what's this other bright dot it's heading toward? #chasingthemoon for #nationalastronomyweek

Beautiful photo of Venus setting in New Zealand, followed by the Moon. Notice how this view compares to we see in the UK. The Moon is the same phase, but seen the other way up. It's further from the Sun than Venus, just like we see it. Saturn is lost to the Sun's dying light. #nationalastronomyweek

Anyone out there updating their National Astronomy Week Chasing the Moon chart? Here's what ours looked like after yesterday evening ... where do you think the Moon will be tonight? And what will it look like? astronomyweek.org.uk/chasing-the-...

thanks Meteoblue for updating your weather maps immediately after I posted a thing (ok yes I like that you do regularly update them, it's just ..)

Tonight's Moon - Waxing Crescent Moon seen from the back garden Birmingham UK at around 6.00pm 03-02-25 #photography #moon #lunar #astronony

Today for #nationalastronomyweek we are counting the stars in the Square of Pegasus. This big square of stars is a bit to the right of the Moon this evening. How many can you see? astronomyweek.org.uk/3-february-t...

What a great start to #NationalAstronomyWeek at the #DarkSkies event in Hertford. We had a screening of The City Dark film followed by a light switch-off and stargazing with astronomers from Bayfordbury Observatory in Hertford Castle grounds. Frosty and fantastic! #NAW

Ok so your photos are a bit better than mine! 🀩 Gorgeous, and that Moon is going FAST!

Quick snap of the Moon and VENUS in Winchester for day 2 of #nationalastronomyweek

I hope folks enjoyed the live views of Venus, Jupiter, and Mars, which we live-streamed for National Astronomy Week tonight. Here's where The Moon was tonight if you had clear skies to see it near Venus & Saturn. Join us again tomorrow evening: astronomyweek.org.uk

Did you see the lovely crescent Moon close to Venus & Saturn Last night? Fill in your National Astronomy Week Chase The Moon PDF and join us for more live streaming this evening: astronomyweek.org.uk

πŸš€ What a fantastic launch event for National Astronomy Week last night! πŸš€ Here's some more images from the night, which proved to be a great opportunity to see the Moon and Saturn with the naked eye, plus Venus, Jupiter, Mars and the Orion Nebula through Herstmonceux observatory's telescopes. ‡️

Even the cats are getting into National Astronomy Week! www.astronomyweek.org.uk

Venus, the crescent Moon (illuminated by plenty of Earth shine!), and even Neptune! As seen from Brighton at 6pm this evening. #DoLookUp #NAW2025 #NAW #Moon #Venus #Neptune

Witness the beauty of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn with your own eyes through a telescope at a stargazing evening near you. ‡️

Hi friends! We don't have an official National Astronomy Week account on Bluesky, so it'd be great if you could help by reposting any of my posts about the event πŸ™ Let's get as many people as possible looking up (or if cloudy at least thinking about this incredible universe that we live in!).

It's Day 1 of National Astronomy Week and today we're focusing on the planet Saturn. Find out how to spot it in the sky, and enjoy a seaside photo from one of its moons. We'll be looking at a new object every day. Tomorrow: Venus! astronomyweek.org.uk

It's National Astronomy Week! Now's the time to print off your Chasing the Moon Chart. (Don't worry if you get clouded out, you can always catch up on its position and appearance the next day by checking the chart we'll be filling in on the website.) astronomyweek.org.uk/chasing-the-...

β€ͺNational Astronomy Week kicks of tomorrow. astronomyweek.org.uk Join me and lots of others as we prepare to Livestream the moon, planets and some deep sky images all week. Here are couple of test images I took yesterday to check the kit I will be using. #astronomy #NAW
