We’re just normal men

The funny thing about this is that I asked ChatGPT this very question not too long ago (which was the only prompt I've ever typed into it btw); "Are you a search engine?" It said no, and that any answer given should be verified by the user. 😅 Of what use is it if you can't trust anything it says?

Throughout the recent Giant Bomb and Fandom kerfuffle , I've mostly angry and disappointed that GB went out with a whimper instead of a bang. It wasn't until trying to explain this video to my partner, and that I broke down in sobs over the whole situation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVvU...

Sinners is a MOVIE, huh? Absolute cinema! Especially loved how unapologetic it was about what it was and what it wanted to be. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely recommended.

In response to the Polygon and Giant Bomb news, I created an indie and worker-owned games media starter pack. I’ll keep adding to it, so suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Please share!

Do not fall for the lies of c-suites. Not making enough money for endless growth goons is not “inherently unprofitable.” Media is very challenging, yes, but the vultures want you to believe these layoffs are inevitable and necessary.

if you're looking for sites to support: defector onion 404 remap are all independent sites I can vouch for!

Been talking about it for months, but today feels right to /do/ it -- myself, @andyrobinson.bsky.social and a few others are toying with putting together a little chat/support group for owners & editors of fully independent games media, where we can compare notes & strats. If that's you, DM me.

For everyone laid off today my advice is the same as always. Give yourself time. It doesn’t have to be a lot but you’re not going fix things overnight anyway. Looking for work is a job itself. Take the weekend. Monday you can get to work.

My first thought upon seeing this post

I'm getting more sad about getting laid off. My work means so much to me. I'm a really good reporter. I've been getting scoops every single week lately, while also doing in-depth, award-winning reporting. I have good ideas! New email: [email protected] www.polygon.com/23776996/bar...

I'm still in shock and so so deeply angry about Vox Media's decision to sell Polygon. I am one of the over 20 people laid off today from the best damn website out there. I'm so proud of the place we built, and the workplace I helped shape. I'm sure I'll have more to say soon, but processing it now

Jesus Christ, talk about being tone deaf. Fandom never knew what they had, and couldn't leave well enough alone, so whatever they fart out after this won't be touched up any GB fans with a ten foot pole.

sorry for spending all day sad-posting about a video game website, it’s just that GB was incredibly formative for me. shit sucks man

there are obviously plenty of people doing good work on twitch and youtube, but we really lose a lot by not having dedicated gaming websites with veteran journalists on staff and editorial standards and shit

Don't even know what to say about Giant Bomb being so badly fumbled by Fandom. If I try to approach the idea too closely, it's like touching a hot stove in my heart. Just extremely, extremely, extremely lucky to have been there for the time I was. Endlessly grateful.
