PSA: wear eye protection when cutting your cats' claws. I managed to get a piece of claw between my eyeball and my eyelid. Pretty sure my eye is OK now. Glad Adam still had saline from when he had contacts.

Went to Moving Art by Richmond Ballet at VMFA today. It was excellent. Brunch at Amuse was delicious. It's as expensive as you'd expect from a museum restaurant, but it's always really good.

I'm mostly an AI optimist, although my should-have-gone-into-risk-management ability to see trip hazards everywhere ensures I have a healthy respect for its risks. I think Google will reach AGI first, if they haven't already, but OpenAI will release it first because they're run by juvenile twits.

Purged more clothes that no longer fit from my closet. I'm down 34 pounds, which is almost 23% of my starting weight (150). I'm a few pounds heavier than I was in high school, which is not bad for turning 52 later this month. I need to try on my (34-yr-old) prom dress again. Tirzepatide for the win.

So a plane from Qatar is what motivates Schumer to get in DT's way re confirmations? But he's cool with ICE?

A bunch of civilians living and working here illegally is not an invasion, you f'ing fastists.

F'ing w/ medical research is something I'll never forgive. A former colleague I adored died recently of cancer & a buddy is trying desperately to stay ahead of aggressive MND until they find a cure. There ARE cures for all of these incurable diseases, & some people don't have time for this garbage.

AI is happening, regardless of what we think of it. There are few fields that will not be affected by it, and you'll be left behind if you resist using it. It is going to be in EVERYTHING in 5 years, and it is going to cause some very good and very bad things to happen.

In Delta Comfort Plus and can't believe this is an upgraded seat. It's only 1.5 hours, but ugh.

If you pray, pray the Cardinals get it right.

Why am I craving a hamburger? I haven't had one since 1996. I'd eat one, but I have to present at a meeting tomorrow and don't want to risk it upsetting my stomach.

It's not a "crackdown" on the legal industry. It's extortion. JFC. No wonder we're in this mess.

Nominee for dumbest trend of the year: vibe coding

Unpopular opinion: There is no such thing as "natural" weight loss. For almost all of our evolutionary history, if you were in a calorie deficit, you were on your way to starvation. You are here because your ancestors' bodies, in that situation, turned down their metabolisms and cranked the hunger.

I was in Anchorage (actually on the road back to Anchorage) when Mt Spurr last erupted in 1992. It was a hot mess. I have to fly to San Antonio on Sunday, then fly home on Wednesday, so she'd better blow before Sunday if she's going to do it. I prefer getting stuck at home over stuck in TX.

I probably disagree with John Reid on almost everything, but it's despicable that he's being harassed because of alleged private behavior that didn't hurt anyone. Youngkin is one of the worst because he looks so harmless.

Scored an antique solid oak pedestal table w/five leaves and four matching chairs with woven cane seats, all in great condition, for <$400 today at Class & Trash in RVA. These tables are usually really expensive or in really bad shape. They had a lot of good stuff at good prices.

Bondi is a fucking fascist.

Done with Invisalign as of today! I don't recommend it if you tend to graze instead of eating real meals. Appointment was near the larger Goodwill in town (!!!), and I found some great clothes in my current size. Need to purge the stuff that is now too big for me.

Fixed the AC. Canceled Claude. I love him, but I'm not doing business with people who do business with Palantir if I can help it. If Google is being evil, don't tell me about it. I'm running out of AIs I can stand using. Gemini is a bit slow, but seems to work well so far, and I got a 1/2-off deal.

Pretty sure Gemini can do everything Claude Pro can do. Need to try their "gems" in place of Claude's projects. Google changed their no AI weapons philosophy recently, but at least they're not working with Palantir. Disappointed with Anthropic. Thought they were one of the better ones.

Pope Francis's death is a real loss. We need more people in positions of authority willing to stand up for the poor.

Had missed the memo about Anthropic and Palantir. Gross.

Suggesting saying that everyone has a right to due process is "aiding and abetting criminals and terrorists" is fascist bullshit, but what do you expect from a literal (Hungarian) Nazi like Gorka? In mostly unrelated news, F you, JK Rowling.

Gemini 2.5 Pro is quite impressive. I didn't love her for help coding - Claude 3.7 Sonnet is my coding buddy, but she has nailed the deep research I've asked her to do.

Taxes paid. April 15th is the only day I hate taxes - they're the price of civilization, and I try to look at the numbers and be grateful we have enough to owe that much.

Who else misses Mitt Romney?
