“New Social Security chief was being investigated when Musk team tapped him” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Illegally cutting cancer research and meals on wheels to pay for PR ads for themselves.

So DOGE intern “Big Balls,” who under no ordinary circumstances would be trusted with sensitive government data access, was engaged in corporate espionage in a prev cybersecurity internship where his boss was so fearful of malicious reprisal he didn’t want to fire him. www.cnn.com/2025/02/21/p...

Several good things are happening according r/fednews so I am going to drop them here. If federal workers are fighting back, how much more us? A thread/

WaPo Page One: “If you’re going to just yell at me, that’s not going to be an effective town hall,” McCormick said .. “But we’re pissed!” a woman shouted. #GA07 www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

“This work and this fight has been going on for 100 years, and in this body and in this chamber, week after week, we are hearing them talk about protecting women and girls. The Equal Rights Amendment does exactly that,” said the measure’s sponsor. #gapol

When these inaccuracies were first found, they could be called "mistakes." When DOGE took efforts to cover them up, they can no longer be considered "mistakes."

If you want to know where the real change-work, the most committed teaching, and the most effective student-success initiatives are happening, *and* where those all receive the best institutional commitment and support, it's at our community colleges.

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

When we fight, we win. Judge Halts Implementation of Trump Anti-DEIA Executive Orders Nationwide The AAUP is proud to stand up & defend our campuses & communities against those attempting to squash civil rights & halt progress toward an equitable, multi-racial democracy. www.washingtonpost.com

Firing all of the JAGs (Judge Advocates General)—the top lawyers in each service branch—is just as bad as, if not worse than, firing (most of) the Joint Chiefs.

This is good, important news, particularly for those in the arts

"The crowd again started shouting 'tax Elon,' 'tax the wealthy,” “tax the rich' and 'tax the billionaires.'" The county went 68% for Trump www.lagrandeobserver.com/news/local/r...

Yes, it is entirely correct to point out that ICE officers do not have any legal authority to break into somebody’s home unless they get a judicial warrant; which they generally cannot do, because judges only issue warrants for probable cause of crimes, not immigration law violations.

Tom Krause is in charge of both a sensitive government payment system and a company that has millions of dollars’ worth of active contracts with various federal agencies through distribution partners, a WIRED review finds. Conflicts posed by this are unprecedented in the modern era, experts say.

oh boy -- Rich McCormick bailed on CNN after his ill-fated town hall

This is what a personalist presidency looks like: "Investigation follows President Trump's remarks at the Republican GOvernor's Association dinner...that Maine risks losing federal funds."

Posting my embroidery so people can find me... 🐯 #embroidery #handembroidery

This is quite significant in many ways: the overt thuggery, Trump’s barely suppressed fury at being contradicted by a woman, the governor’s standing up, the total abandonment of the pretense of federalism, the continuing use of trans Americans the way Hitler used Jews.

Raskin: "It's becoming obvious to the American people that Elon Musk and Donald Trump are not opponents of corruption, they are agents of corruption."

the stock market is now below where it was when Joe Biden left office

When you’re Republicans who really like the idea of forcing young girls to submit to genital inspections in your state, but you don’t want to be associated with it because you know it’s degenerate behavior, you sue the NCAA to try to make them do your dirty work for you.

Helluva read and we need more of this kind of reporting in every state and at the national level.

Y'all notice this hypocrisy? •Musk gets $20B+ in federal subsidies—is celebrated! •NPR gets ~$3M in federal grants—Trump wants to shut it down as "wasteful." This isn't democracy—it's autocracy & an all out war on free press. Here are two ways we can fight back: www.qasimrashid.com/p/the-war-on...

"The protests were more than just an expression of outrage and an attempt to stop the slicing. They amounted to a massive public education project, showing the United States, in real time, the work its government actually does, and how many lives that work touches." inthesetimes.com/article/fede...

CSPAN Caller from West Virginia: I’m a diabetic and I’m on Medicare. When Biden was in there, my insulin was $6 for a 28 day supply. I just went to CVS, it went back up to $80…

Keep calling your representatives and attend town halls if you’re able. Rich McCormick (R-GA) was obviously unprepared to learn his constituents think he’s abdicated his duties to Musk and his acolytes who are wantonly breaking things, indiscriminately firing people, and harming our communities…1/

I do appreciate how creative humans are and how they can make songs about the fall of democracy that really slap

Just so everybody is clear on Republican priorities: We put up an amendment to make sure nobody making over $500 million gets a tax cut. Republicans voted against it.

There’s not a word in this story about the corrupt nature of this dismissal. Not a concern voiced, not a question raised, not even an acknowledgment that he’s the president’s biggest donor and he’s acting as an unelected, unconfirmed tyro wielding unchecked power over spending and the civil service.

🚨 UPDATE 🚨: EPIC’s @johndavisson.bsky.social argued in federal court today for a temporary order blocking the DOGE-directed disclosure and misuse of sensitive personal data held by OPM and Treasury. A decision is expected later today.

At 3am, Republicans had an opportunity to keep their promise to our nation’s veterans and pass legislation to guarantee no cuts or delays to health care benefits we secured for toxic-exposed service members. They voted it down.

Keep defending your public services!
