Was a real pleasure to go to my first StokerCon! Didn't take home an award, but was an honor to be nominated - and to get to meet some very nice people IRL who I'd just known on here before, including @emilyhughes.bsky.social, @johnlangan.bsky.social, and @paultremblay.bsky.social! A great time!

This novel The Haunting of Velkwood by @gwendolynkiste.bsky.social is wonderful- highly recommend

I will take this kind of praise from anyone especially someone as clearly discriminating as you!

I should just add that, in the definition of a class act, Emily spent time in her speech encouraging the audience to buy the other nominees’ books!

Thank you (and for the lovely inscription on my personal copy)!!!!

Mazel tov to Emily!!!!

Just in time for StokerCon - Amazon has my (Stoker-nominated) American horror history AMERICAN SCARY at over 1/3 off!! www.amazon.com/American-Sca...

What an introduction to StokerCon - getting to hear Joyce Carol Oates!

THREE MONTHS LESS THREE DAYS

THREE MONTHS LESS THREE DAYS

I could read these parents/kid reviews all day long. This was fantastic.

Two points re this, one less relevant than the other: 1. as someone now working on a cultural history of the Eighties, worth pointing out that Trump came to popularity at ground zero of Les Mis's impact on Broadway/NY 2. The lyrics are so good it's hard to believe they're essentially translations

I do think that most people (not the OP, obviously!) don't know, and would be intrigued to learn, how much lower status the comic book was to the comic strip, and the comic-book artist to the comic strip cartoonist, at the time of ACTION COMICS 1.

We have been blessed to live in an age of remarkable songwriters and songs, but it's possible that "God Only Knows" is the platonic ideal of the pop song. Not sure it will ever be passed. RIP to one of the best ever to do it.

Absolutely on both!!

National Lampoon a great call!!

I wouldn't be shocked if the Cambridge don in question got it from Harvey

And here's the video!

Or to quote Elwood P. Dowd: "In this world, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant. Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant."

Also the first mentions of these!!

First mention of New York! Very important!

What a list!!
