It's CNN but even if real Russian support is double this it's still pathetic. Americans need to be on the streets.

Days like today we must remember... The pee tape is real

The kinds of people in my LinkedIn network looking for work following Doge/Federal layoffs is absolutely absurd. ML/Quant analysis/data engineering PhDs with decades of experience Some of the most valuable people on earth right now getting laid off because someone didn't bend the knee

Because LLMs produce text not facts. Don't make me tap the sign

so if I sign off all my whatsapp conversations with "transgender" they won't read them?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Google AI ad showed someone writing a product description that contained entirely made up figure for global gouda consumption So they took it down absolute poetry

Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models. In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.

One of the scariest things about these times is just how numb I've become. I barely believe anything I read any more, and find it increasingly hard to care about the things I do. The noise has drowned out all meaning in the most consequential of moments.

Where the hell is the Deep State when we need them?

Apple reported revenue of $390b in 2024. The UK reported about $1010b in tax revenue. Apple alone takes in more than 1/3rd of the UKs total tax revenue. The UK cannot make tech giants do a damn thing. Even a united European Union struggles. Brexiteers have no perspective on how small the UK is.

Training isn't "fair use" on things you don't even have the rights to read arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

Charlie Brooker couldn't write it. Well, actually he probably could

Trying to wrap my head around this. Not at all a bitcoin fan and I'm wondering if this, too, is wishful thinking from a skeptical AFP, or whether accepting a 1.4b loan from the IMF really does mean the end of the only, current, state backer of crypto ticotimes.net/2025/02/02/e...

Tulsi Gabbard. The stoppest of clocks

The ARM sale is looking more shortsighted by the day

Why is it when we generate images, we know the image isn't real, even when derived from real images? Yet when we do the same with text we treat the output as "real"? Why do people treat ChatGPT as a search engine, but not stablediffusion as image search?

A fundamental question I do not understand about models. If I stole a model and released a sufficiently fine-tuned version of it, under a different name, would there be any way to tell which model it was derived from? Asking for a friend...

When that model was trained (2023) Elon Musk hadn't done a Nazi Salute (2024). When deepseek was trained (2024) the Tianaman square massacre had occurred (1989) There is enough to criticise OpenAI already. Chinese censorship is a different beast.

It's not a question of if DeepSeek is stolen IP. It's a question of how much.

I just could not care less about whatever gesture Elon Musk did or didn't do. If he did it, it's juvenile trolling. If he didn't, it's moral panic. Substantively, it's his support for far right causes he doesn't understand in Europe that is alarming. Not whatever is his latest moronic display.

Every god damn time I hear someone say "college campuses"

It's all fun and games until someone starts a Reich

Today is Blue Monday. Statistically the saddest day of the year. Except the concept seems to have been invented by a PR company working for travel agency to sell holidays. Utterly shameless

UCL are conducting a study into whether DMT could be used to curb alcohol addiction. It's placebo controlled. Do you think you would notice? Because I'm pretty damn sure I would notice 🤣 www.psychedelicunit.com/unity-alcohol
