New from the lab!! 👉🏼 authors.elsevier.com/a/1kgT43BtfH... 📝 @cellpress.bsky.social We discovered that genetically-defined neuron types in the hippocampus form unique manifolds! Dual color imaging, chemogenetics and topological analysis all at once! With Juan Gallego @juangallego.bsky.social

We are pleased to announce the Frontiers in Neurophotonics Symposium 2025 (FiNS2025) (www.frontiersneurophotonics.org). The meeting will take place October 6 - 9, 2025 in Bordeaux, France. It is the 7th edition of a successful and exciting conference series. 🧪

Interested in hippocampal-cortical networks? Consider attenting and showing your work at the next Paris Circuit Dynamics Conference entitled Hippocampal–Cortical Circuits: From structure to computation, organized at the Paris Brain Institute on 28-29/04/25. More information: www.paris-circuits.eu

Don’t miss our review on how EEG has contributed to epilepsy research. Thanks to @chrislisgaras.bsky.social for the lead! 🧪 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

delighted to share our work revealing a new type of excitatory hippocampal neuron we call the "ovoid cell", which has really exquisite properties relative to adjacent pyramidal cells! superb work of first-author @adriennekinman.bsky.social and many others in the lab www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Young researchers (PhD & post-doc) may candidate for a 15 minute presentation in the symposium of their choice at #NeuroFrance2025! 🗓️ Application deadline: 21 February 2025 ➕ More info: www.neurosciences.asso.fr/SN25/abstrac...

NIH has cut billions of dollars in biomedical funding, effective immediately The move halts a large slice of money for most universities and research institutions virtually overnight, imperiling vital research in everything from cancer to heart disease. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

So excited to see this out, heroic effort by the brilliant Sara Mederos, uncovering the detailed brain mechanisms of how animals learn to overcome their instinctive fear responses, from neural circuits & cell types down to synaptic plasticity mechanism! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Neuropixels and Optogenetics are delighted to announce the birth of Neuropixels Opto Combining high-resolution electrophysiology and optogenetics Today in bioRxiv 960 sites, 28 emitters, 2 colors By Lakunina, @karolinazsocha.bsky.social, Ladd, et al www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... (1/2)

I'll be in Nice tomorrow to give a keynote seminar at Institut de Biologie Valrose (iBV), please come at 11 to here about the neuronal cytoskeleton!

Perfect periodicity in grid cells would make decoding locations degenerate in large spaces. Slight distortions in grid patterns, as observed in vivo, solve this problem, enabling precise spatial navigation. Final version of the manuscript is now available 👇 elifesciences.org/reviewed-pre...

Interesting study on the role of hippocampal VIP neurons in remapping, place field stabilization, & emergence of new place cells (BTSP). One possible mechanism is through OLM cell inhibition by VIP. Then, does direct manipulation of OLM cells lead to the same effect? www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

#NeuroFrance2025 registration & abstract submission are open! 🥳 We'll be back in the beautiful city of Montpellier next May for the biggest neuroscience meeting in France. Don't miss out! 🤩 Registration: www.neurosciences.asso.fr/SN25/inscrip...

For all you place cell aficionados: there is a cool new preprint from my colleagues @mateneubrandt.bsky.social, @noralenkey.bsky.social and @koenvervaeke.bsky.social, showing that VIP interneurons gate place cell plasticity in the hippocampus! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Congrats Hugh !

Reminder that @europepmc.org is a mirror of Pubmed with better search and that it indexes *all* bioRxiv preprints (as well as ResearchSquare), not just the ones funded by NIH like chauvinist Pubmed

1/19 I’m thrilled that my postdoctoral work, with John Widloski and David Foster is now out in @science.org, along with a wonderful preview by Daniel Bendor!

New paper out in Cell Reports! Led by @susieyufeng.bsky.social, we found that chronic epilepsy in mice drives distinct synchronization deficits in hippocampus and MEC, with early changes in HPC and late-onset changes in MEC that align with progressive memory impairment. www.cell.com/cell-reports...
