A necessary move. It would have been helpful if Starmer had given some outline indication of what the increase will be spent on. He did hint at cyber-security (and presumably cyber-offensive capability), but I didn't hear anything about conventional or nuclear forces.

This is absolute nonsense. The country is a mess. Roads unusable, services cut to the bone, sickness levels skyrocketing, schools falling apart, hospitals not fit for purpose, but we can afford more money on 'defense'. 🙄😏

Why is this not headline news? Former Brexit Party MEP, Nathan Gill has been arrested for taking “Russian-linked bribes” from Oleg Voloshyn. Here’s Nigel Farage with Voloshyn’s wife

📣 Social care is in crisis! That’s the message from 3000 protestors in Westminster today including from #StAlbans We @libdems.org.uk are calling for: 🛁 Free personal care ❌ Social care providers to be exempted from the jobs tax 🗣️ Cross-party talks to complete this year: 2028 is too late!

So the Tories cut Foreign Aid from their promised 7% to 5% and Starmer cuts it to 3% and will still not tax the rich nor energy companies

The Government have launched a consultation about creating a Mayoral County Authority for 'Greater Essex'. It is not directly about proposals for wider local government reorganisation at City, Borough, District and Town/Parish level. Make sure your voice is heard More: www.gov.uk/government/c...

i feel like they’re making the same mistake the Tories did - implementing austerity to reduce the deficit, damaging the economy in the process and reducing tax revenue, increasing the deficit and creating death spiral.

Labour had surprised voters by proving a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They are out to tax every penny out of your pocket. If you end up in a care home and survive long enough, you lose all your savings and have nothing to pass on. Assisted dying, anyone??

The UK Government has taken on fighting our personal security, our right to privacy and to assert its right to undermine global standards help criminals along the way?

This is madness. I would have expected this from the Theresa May era Tories but Labour in 2025. It's not a question of if they are neoliberal now but of how far they are.

Rachel Reeves just keeps hammering the little people , coming after cash ISAs and thinking of taxing state pensions. Noone is going to have any money ,as they will be paying to live. How does that achieve growth? Labour leadership are completely out of touch. What's the point in saving ?
