I wasn't the only one who saw this, right?

Did you know that Trump issued a proclamation ordering that all US flags on public grounds, US embassies, etc. be flown at full-staff today for his inauguration? Then tomorrow they can return to half-staff until until the period of 30 days from the day of Jimmy Carter's death has concluded. Yo.

Today my pinball team made it to the season finals and after two extremely intense hours we were tied up and it came down to the final game, and we LOST 602 Million to 581 Million on Jurassic Park. I'm never playing pinball again. Good night. (Will reevaluate tomorrow.)

Took a few weeks but I finally sat myself down and watched the Half-Life 2 documentary this weekend. Such a gift. Thank you @valvesoftware.com and @noclipvideo.bsky.social.

Proper nerd over here

🧐

This video is exceptional. ChatGPT has helped me become a better programmer, but I disagree with nothing Freya says here.

Stern Pinball has teased their next game and it's the long-rumored Dungeons and Dragons. Looks like an original take, not based on the recent movie. I've never played D&D in my life but I'm extremely excited to see how they incorporate persistence and RPG mechanics. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQpT...

I realize I'm talking to about 4 people but if you have access to multiple Meta Quests 3/3s, the co-location "local" mode of Home Sports is bonkers good. Everyone in the room sees the same augmented reality. No isolation, great tracking, and the games play great! Props @resolutiongames.bsky.social!

Game dev engineering is full of great challenges that serve gameplay, but is itself nerdy backstage scaffolding that rarely gets mentioned by the press. That makes comments like @dark1x.bsky.social's shout-out to some "Rita's Rewind" visual tech so appreciated. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vih...

Different music too!

Just finished our annual viewing of Muppet Christmas Carol and I swear it just gets better every year.

I can’t really process that Gordon’s gone right now. But PC World has posted a tribute from folks who worked with him and loved him. I’ve been listening to his old rants since I found out, and its lovely to hear him grouse about stuff again. The world is worse off without him in it.

I just watched The Polar Express for the first time. That's really... something. In fairness, I didn't do it any favors waiting 20 years.

This is one of my favorite games released since I've been at DE. Another @jerware.org jam, with fantastically clever pixel art by @maenots.bsky.social and a subversive soundtrack from @itsbobtown.bsky.social that reworks holiday classics in the style of TV sports anthems. Spend the $5 already.

What do you call a podcast where you talk pop culture, tech, and life but don’t record it? @nchan.bsky.social @jerware.org

I’m a simple man. I’ll take canned jellied cranberry sauce over the fancy stuff any day.

Spooky has teased Evil Dead pinball, based on the first two movies, and I'm here for it. Full reveal tomorrow!

Appropriately enough, I learned about this by browsing Blue's News tonight. Tons of fixes and enhancements, including 3.5 hours of Developer Commentary by members of the Half-Life 2 team. And I hear it free this weekend, but of course you already own it. www.half-life.com/en/halflife2...
