It's insane how congestion pricing in NYC has been just about *the* most unambiguously successful new policy implemented in my lifetime and still all the dumbest people in government want to get rid of it

“Air pollution fell substantially as [Paris] restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability & quality of life. Such an obvious no-brainer, it’s remarkable that so many cities HAVEN’T done the same.

A children’s rights group has accused Israeli forces of stripping, humiliating, terrorising and detaining two Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank, after shooting and killing their grandmother. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/qb4gkm

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath 50 reasons to want more walkable streets.

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Absolutely the most disgusting press conference I’ve heard in my 58 years. Palestinian people, I see you, I’m sorry, this is horrific. Absolutely horrific. Ethnic cleansing and genocide to steal their land. I have no words it’s disgusting.

This by Dan Savage is I think important to keep top of mind. It speaks to the point I made earlier that bad news is never the only news.

There is a growing movement in Canada to boycott US products and support Canadian made. My blog contains some resources to guide consumers who are taking this path. open.substack.com/pub/queergra...

Focus on 1 or 2 things. Go deep on those. Focus on "news" about those things first and foremost. Think about the concrete actions you can take to impact those ONE or TWO things.

Stop making stupid people famous.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️

Even as a conservationist I've always been shocked by how much more attention we pay to the loss of biodiversity than to the loss of human cultural diversity This is the real wealth of humanity, our accumulated knowledge, and it's just quietly disappearing

people complain about congestion pricing because for decades, government officials in Canada and the US have designed cities around privately owned cars instead of investing in and expanding public transportation infrastructure (which would also significantly help families, poor and disabled people)

Give me sentence (or two) from the future. Something that if it were to happen would mean that the world has made it through this current constriction of confusion, foolishness, and violence.
