Io moth in watercolor. I really enjoyed playing with the details in this one. #watercolor #wildlife #natureart #artsci #watercolormoth #bugart #lepidoptera

Out of the studio for the weekend, but still managed to find time to paint on the train. #naturejournal #watercolor #watercolorflowers #natureart #sketchbook #flowers

So much energy and joy went into this painting. I especially love the watermarks on his wing. #watercolor #bird #birdart #natureart #wildlife #artsci

The Harvest mouse is the smallest rodent in Europe, weighing just six grams. In Britain it is common as far north as Yorkshire. https://theweeowlart.etsy.com/listing/1783004266 #HarvestMouse #AnimalArt #OriginalArt #Drawing #TraditionalArtist #GiftIdeas #ArtShop #MothersDay #bsnm

A few more waterfowl from today’s adventure at the crick. #waterfowl #birding #winterwalk #nature #birds #birdphotography

Another afternoon of birding. This time we took a walk down by the crick. This pair of common mergansers left in a hurry leaving a trail of splashes. #winterwalk #birding #birds #waterfowl #nature #birdphotography

If you’re subscribed to my newsletter, you got this comic in your inbox this morning, but I want to share it here, too. 🤘

Female Cooper’s hawk from a winter walk. #photography #nature #birdwatching #bird #hawk #winter

It appears as though we won’t be escaping this sentiment any time soon.

A house sparrow flew into our window before diving in the snow. I thought it was odd until I realized he was being chased by a Cooper’s Hawk. After not finding the sparrow, the hawk flew away. I then ran outside to retrieve the sparrow. Lucky little bugger was inches from being breakfast. #birds

Just when I thought the weather was warming up…another snow day. As I always say—snow days are for the birds (and birders). Dark eyed juncos have become a favorite winter feeder visitor. While I can’t wait for warmer weather, I’ll be sad to see them go. #bird #birdwatching #winter #nature

Rain, rain go away, come again some other day... A soggy Eastern Bluebird waiting for the snack bar to open.

I’ve been tracking a small group of common mergansers at the crick near my house; I’ve yet to get photos of them, but did take some time to paint one. This is my first attempt, and I’m pleased with the outcome! #birds #birdart #watercolorart #natureart #painting #artsci

Starling season. I have a love-hate for European starlings. They can be bullies at the feeders and voracious, but I still find them beautiful. #birds #naturephotography

Work in progress. 🌿 I’ve finally found some free time to sit down and paint for the pure joy of painting. I have a pair red-bellied woodpeckers that visit my feeder, and I’ve been anxious to paint them. #birds #watercolor #natureart #painting #birdart

Mr. Bluebird is probably dreaming of spring and spending sunny days catching fresh insects on wing. (Eastern Bluebird)

Sprocket, aka, Beastly. He’s my favorite studio assistant, adventure partner, and napping buddy. This painting is dear to my heart. I love painting birds, but painting pets and capturing their personalities is a close second. #watercolor #dogs #art #painting

I’ve spent months working on my website, and I’m pleased to share it. I’m offering a Ready for Spring Sale in my online shop for all my bird nerds, nature lovers, and art enthusiasts—and everyone in between. Also, anyone else ready for spring? #watercolor #birds #natureart www.thepaintersnest.com

Lovely words from Mary Oliver. She’s kept my mind at ease lately. Also, treated myself to a new bookmark from @bserway.bsky.social It’s the little things that bring me joy anymore.

Work in progress. This guy is similar to my other great horned owl painting, however, I used masking fluid for interesting mark making. Not sure if this piece will make the cut, but I really enjoyed the process. #watercolor #owl #birds #birdart #artsci #natureart #nature

I’ve had a handful of American goldfinches visit my feeders over these cold, wintry days. I just love seeing them in their winter plumage (possibly more than their bright yellow spring coat). I think their winter plumage is more exciting to paint. #watercolor #birds #birdart #natureart #artsci

Small Joys with Mothman is an ongoing series that’s meant to serve as a reminder that peace is usually found in the smallest and simplest of ways. New Substack + YT video up. Links below. youtu.be/VPshQvifccI?... nataliekovacs.substack.com/p/small-joys...

As much as I love birds, I do paint other creatures. I’ve spent countless hours in the woods, but the first time I ever saw a fox was at a golf course in Clarksburg, WV. It was just a kit frolicking in the fairway. #watercolor #natureart #fox #watercolorfox #foxart

Sculpting feels so fun and surprisingly natural, but it also reminds me how important it is to just start if you want to get better at something. Definitely stepping out of my usual rhythm as I wait on bisque to finish in the kiln, but I’m so glad I did. My first bird - made from a pinch pot!

When you toss negativity into the world it affects the people around you. Maybe they end up grumpy and treat someone else badly. Being kind is a simple way to battle the tide of gloom many are feeling. Gulf Fritillary

oystercatcher appreciation post 💖 still one of my fav sketchbook spreads from last year! inspired by our trip to one of my favorite places, cannon beach, oregon.

Positivity, kindness, and earnestness are about to be even more punk af.

On #OnlyBeautifulThings day, I decided to share one of my favorite garden visitors. #birds #watercolor #natureart
