What if 2 million civil servants emailed Musk back with “I read Grimes’ tweet. You better call her. Your kid is sick.”

Colleagues in peer organizations are reporting big turnout for Medicaid (and other anti-Trump-policy) town halls across the country. A town hall in Coon Valley, WI (pop. 700) turned out 30 people — 5% of the town population. People are hungry. I'm grateful for Bernie.

This is insane. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

[Democratic mediocrity town hall] Me: [chanting] primary challenge, primary challenge— Other voters: primary challenge, PRIMARY CHALLENGE Local Democratic Party Secretary: [pounding her clipboard] PRIMARY CHALLENGE, PRIMARY CHALLENGE, PRIMARY CHALLENGE!

Biggest loser maybe of all time?

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Evil fucking place, fuck this

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

Musk is losing it. Like you can watch his life spin out of control

Along with voting for 7 Trump picks, Rosen was one of 12 Senate Democrats to vote for the Laken Riley Act — which empowers Trump's ICE to detain migrants with no due process. All the more relevant as Trump sends migrants to detention camps in Guantanamo with no due process.

everyone should know about Ivory Perry regardless of black history month, but now's a good time to note someone who put his body on the line, went to jail (in the Workhouse), over and over, for civil rights jacobin.com/2024/01/ivor...

A number of my science colleagues are newly out of work, so I thought I'd share some open positions at UMaine that might be of interest. Please share with your networks! 1) Assistant Research Professor in Cryosphere and Land-Surface Modeling:

Wow listening to Leonard Peltier say they didn't break him after 50 years in prison and seem so optimistic is incredibly inspiring

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

This is a concentration camp. They are describing a concentration camp.

Everything is a "psyop" if you're stupid 🧠

MEETING THE MOMENT

You can partially thank Biden for this outright lie, as his admin in June stopped requiring Border Patrol to ask migrants if they were seeking asylum and record the answer during the arrest process. The minute that change happened, Border Patrol agents just started ignoring people’s cries for help.

i dream of every wolf in the world wearing a little helmet

Hundreds of asylum seekers were deported from the U.S. to Panama and locked in a hotel without access to lawyers, or their own passports.

Trump's DOJ has erased a report from its website that lays out its own recommendations for tackling violence against Indigenous women www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...

"Public safety" has always been a obscenely flimsy pretext for our immigration "policy", but this story just lays bare the needless cruelty. Who feels safer after this?

This shit fuckin sucks, man

omg yes!

Great opportunity at a great institution in a great city!

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds. This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

Starting the week off with some (much needed!) good news - my FIRST first-author manuscript has been published in #conservationgenetics 🌎✨🧪 Using DNA barcoding, I found that ~10% of swordfish sold in New England (USA) fish markets was actually shark, including the endangered shortfin mako 🦈

NOAA is reportedly on the DOGE chopping block. The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US. A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans. Again, this isn't about efficiency.
