It will never cease to amaze me that the generation who actually did live part of their lives with paper memos, upon which email formats are based, nevertheless are the worst at subject lines. My sweet summer child, did you drop off paper memos that just said "hello" or were blank?

The world is billions of years old and I live at the same time as Angela Bassett. #hatm

From a letterpress bookmark for Literati Cultura. Quote by Eleanor Roosevelt.

"There’s no way to make ICE fit comfortably within a democratic society. Just the opposite: The only kind of society something like ICE breeds is an antidemocratic police state." - @jackmirkinson.bsky.social www.thenation.com/article/poli...

First attempt at finding more rest: sketching out a week with all my commitments put into 40 hours of work. There isn’t any prep time in here yet, which instantly tells me some things have to go or be done more efficiently. Also my life is service heavy right now which is expected but stark.

ICE is the SS, immigrants are the Jews (and everybody else) so like…how far are we from death camps? I’m asking for real. I don’t know my 1930s history very well; never took AP European and World History class was the beginning of me realizing it was possible for me to be smarter than my teacher.

Airport CBP guy: Welcome home! Me: What makes you think I’m from here? Him: stammers Me: I’m teasing! There is an M on literally everything I have visible including my mask! 😆 #detroitmichiganisintheeasterntimezone

This would be a fun phonology/morphology activity for an intro course. #teaching #linguistics

What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders? I’ve played this game a lot but there’s never too many times to remind folx that there’s no such thing as bad grammar. Your judgements of native speakers’ words and sentences structure reflect your social biases, not linguistic fact.

Share widely! Can’t wait to hang with yall in Ann Arbor!

Morphology.

This is 10-12 tenure-track assistant professors’ salaries at many places. A whole academic program’s worth of money, pissed away, In Times of Austerity, on rent-a-cops going after students who dared speak. Nobody behind this should have a career.

New book series!

One thing I like about stacking email is that it separates an empty inbox from a processed inbox. I always end the day by stacking, but I might not fully process the stacks until the morning. However, I leave knowing that every email has been looked at and I haven't missed something urgent.

“I am here to ensure that DEI never returns to the University of Florida,” Ono said Tuesday. This dude really said “segregation forever” but it still wasn’t enough for Rufo and his band of merry racists bent on destroying higher education.

I have successfully trained TikTok that all I want to see are mascot reveals and that I will immediately close the app on any other video AND the sun is out. It’s a good day!

Do I feel especially clever for this naming of the sequence of options of how to get to #NWAV53? Yes. sites.lsa.umich.edu/nwav53/travel/ Get working on those abstracts! Due June 15.
