Our daily tarot card draws for the past few days have been Judgment, Tower, Tower, Judgment, Judgment. Universe, do you have something to say…?

Man, really Apple? Really? It literally says “Image Creation” and “Chat GPT Extension”. Hidden under SCREEN TIME. Gah!!! These tech bros are literally trying to shove this junk down our throats. Keep resisting it. It’s so dumb.

Ursula le Guin, on the accusation that fantasy is an escape from reality

Been a while since I had a party scene in one of my games. And there's reason to celebrate: ROSEWATER comes out in exactly 5 WEEKS! #RosewaterGame

Tried to organize some thoughts on the current generative AI push in video game development. What bugs me is how much executives seem to think that the human touch has no bearing on why people like games, and that players will just play ANYTHING. www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/why-w...

Brilliantly insightful & painfully true. Many 'good guy' protagonists are stuck in a neo liberal labyrinth. Having the conviction to enact lasting positive change requires a push back that much of the audience finds difficult to stomach when they see the truths it opens up and the work it requires.

Game designers, writers, and publishers: Polygon Treehouse made a sleek and convenient "No GenAI" seal PNG for those of us who still refrain from using Midjourney, ChatGPT, DallE, and all the rest of that sludge at any stage of our process! Link is here www.polygon-treehouse.com/no-gen-ai-seal

This is exactly what I was looking for! A step-by-step method to dig up the RSS feed link for any Mailchimp newsletter so I can unsubscribe from everything and read them on my own time. Get out of my inbox and into my RSS reader! 🙌

Not sure if this is something I’ve posted before.. but I love how AI works as a competency test. You can tell how skilled you are at a thing by how unimpressed you are by the slop generated equivalent. I’m not a photographer, so AI photos fool me outside obvious tells.

Make weird stuff to make the world feel bigger is such a beautiful, elegant and electrifying way to put it.

I've started streaming some Valheim on Sunday afternoons. Currently roaming the Mistlands. Feel free to pop in and say hi!

I found myself starting to doomscroll, but instead of doing that I have decided to stop scrolling and tell you about communal shower traditions in Iceland and why I love them. And no, it‘s not sexual. It‘s because of mental health. Yes, this will be a 🧵 1/?

For reference: Procedural generation is shuffling a deck and dealing from it. genAI is feeding every card deck you can find, including ones not for the game, into a wood chipper, slapping a handful of the bits on some glue, and pretending its a playable hand.

I see people saying this sort of thing often, and quite frankly it makes me sad. The truth is, more people are making good adventure games now than were ever made during the “golden age” of the 90s. For example: 🧵

I figure it's about time to tell more people I have a Twitch channel. I have a Twitch channel! Mostly GTA RP, but today we're playing some Valheim:

This is my monthly low-key social for NYC-area indie game devs and friends, happening tomorrow night! We've got a fantastic new location and are set for a great evening out.

I've just announced the February NYC Indie Games Social for this Wednesday, 2/5, at our new location at Tavern 29! I was holding off on publishing the event until I confirmed the arrangements, so please help spread the word and invite a friend. See you there? https://partiful.com/e/jWI9a5kQT8dd9W8N…

I was enjoying this Aftermath interview with Fran Warner about what narrative designers actually do, then I got to the very end and it made me a little sad. (It doesn’t have to be this way…you *could* have an editor!) https://aftermath.site/narrative-designer-job-description-video-games

After all these years, Rosewater has a release date! And it's about to be revealed...starting NOW!

Stimulation Clicker is a delightfully horrible game. I played it until it crashed my phone's browser, which seems like the perfect ending to me.

I've never been to MAGFest, but @grundislavgames.bsky.social goes every year. This time, he brought me back many presents!

I keep coming back to Rosie Spinks' article How to build a village. It's full of sensible attitudes and behaviors to adopt if you want to show up more in community and surround yourself with people who will be there for you—like "be the person who asks [extends invitations] twice." Or more.

Delighted to get my box set of @jumpovertheage.com 's brilliant Heterotopias zine exploring game landscapes and architecture. The printing and binding is really stunning. A wonderful addition to my shelf of virtual world–themed crowdfunded books and box sets. https://www.heterotopiaszine.com/

The TikTok ban, the Musk Twitter takeover, the Facebook moderation policy changes, the Republicans’ rapidly intensifying crackdowns on speech... let these be the proof you needed to move anything you care about online to a space you control. Digital sovereignty is more important than ever.

I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

Just spent 10 minutes in a chat with Google support to get the new Gemini "AI" features disabled on our workspace account. For some reason they have a hidden config menu you need them to turn on if you want to disable it. No warning, they just defaulted this nonsense to on on the 15th.

Last night we scouted a new venue for the NYC Indie Games social, since the sidewalk shed at Smithfield Hall got taken down. I am committed so I will do what it takes, even if it means gathering friends and going to a bunch of bars in the middle of the week. (It was cold out!) Full report follows.

Honor his memory by doing something strange, unraveling a riddle within yourself, and working on your favorite projects.

What better time than the present to rediscover this? rhinostew.itch.io/david-lynch-...
