TODAY: Intense, damaging winds will be the main problem as rain turns to snow Tuesday evening. Very treacherous, if not impossible driving conditions are expected tonight. Gusts will peak around 65-70 mph overnight, with extensive tree damage and power outages possible. #NEwx

4AM: Some t'storms flaring back up on radar early Tuesday morning between Grand Island, Kearney, Broken Bow and Greeley. #NEwx

Tuesday is going to be something. Be prepared for t-storms, snow, and a LOT of wind.

BLIZZARD WARNINGS for parts of western Nebraska early Tue-Wed. A few inches of snow and a LOT of wind is expected. Winter Storm Watches for much of the rest of the state. A few inches of snow and a lot of wind also likely, so we'll eventually see upgrades in this area.

Only thing missing from the first half of next week is the kitchen sink

A WINTER STORM WATCH and a HIGH WIND WATCH is in place for late Monday into late Tuesday, March 3-4, 2025. T-storms possible 1st, then blizzard or near blizzard conditions will be possible in the Lincoln area Tuesday evening.

Getting closer to spring, fire weather will be of concern anytime winds increase. Friday PM gusts will be up to 40-45 mph. The watch will likely turn into a Red Flag Warning (not a burn ban, but a heads up that conditions are right for fires to spark and get out of control).

A Flood Watch has been issued for parts of eastern Nebraska through Saturday evening. Ice breakup and movement has started in the Loup River, with an ice jam and minor flooding already being reported near Columbus. This usually indicates breakup in the Platte River is imminent.

Very warm temperatures lately have now led to some flooding due to an ice jam along the Loup River near Columbus. Emergency management reported flooding ongoing along Hwy 30 this morning. #NEwx

Severe weather season starting to ramp up down south going into early March. Friends and family down that way should be prepared for that potential Tuesday, March 4th. This risk had been highlighted 7 days out already. #TXwx #ARwx #LAwx #MSwx

Not as windy today! Still warm!

522AM: Just a wee bit of a chill out there. WNW wind still around 5-15 mph Thursday morning.

Anybody remember how hot it was last year on this date (Feb 26, 2025). Lincoln got in the 80s for only the 2nd time ever in February in recorded history!

The end of February will close out meteorological winter. This winter continues to be one of the driest (top 5 in Lincoln) in terms of snowfall. The Sandhills along with Lincoln and Omaha are running 1-2 feet below average for the season.

Last night, we even had storm reports (for wind). Gusts were around 50-60 mph with those thunderstorms, the first of the year 🌩️ Beatrice: 58 Fairbury: 52 Papillion: 51

Ample sunshine will lead to stronger winds mixing down to the surface later this morning. NW winds will gust around 25-35 mph through the afternoon Wednesday.

Our average HIGH is 45.

Very warm again this AM. Not too shabby, but breezy.

Woah, just missed out on a severe t'storm warning last night, too - a 61mph wind gust reported near Mineola prompted this warning.

457AM: Few sprinkles out there from some elevated showers early Wednesday morning. This expected to clear quickly east with ample sunshine the rest of the day.

👀⚡️ Lightning on cell just northeast of Neligh, Nebraska. Radar as of 558pm Tuesday. #NEwx

Huh. While the chance for even rain is low, maybe can't rule out an isolated t'storm with ⚡️tonight. February in Nebraska 🤷‍♀️

The chance for moisture after tonight in the 10day looks more convincing next week, but it may come as rain transitioning over to snow Tuesday into Wednesday (March 4-5). Way too soon to know much more.

Gorgeous weather around here lately and check out this sunrise in Lincoln today! Hard to not be in a good mood 😁

This is the reality of rain chances tonight. Very light rain may add up to a few hundredths of an inch for a very select few after about 7-8PM. Moisture is very limited in the atmosphere, so these will be very spotty showers. May even miss out completely.

Fire danger will be a concern for some across Nebraska today. Red Flag Warning in place by noon. Very dry fuels (severe/extreme drought), significant winds, low relative humidity and warmer temperatures can easily lead to fires starting and becoming difficult to control. #NEwx

Compared to Monday, we'll have a more noticeable breeze today. Lincoln has a shot at 70° as well.

Looking at Lincoln's data archive 1887 to present. I listed the warmest & coldest temperatures observed for each month over the ENTIRE data record. February is the winner with a 114 degree range in observed temperatures, followed by March with a 110 degree range. We live in the "land of extremes"!

No place like Nebraska 💚

Nature is healing around here 🥰

This week features temperatures in the 60s just about every day. The exception will be a windy day Wednesday following a front and a late chance for a little rain Tuesday night.

About 1" left of snow depth in Lincoln to melt away, which we'll have no problem doing this week.

Feast your eyes on morning temperatures right now that are in the 40s(!!!) to start out Monday. These temperatures are typical of a mid- to late-April morning!

UPDATE: We shattered the record again this morning in Lincoln, AGAIN dropping to -17° for the second morning in a row for a new record low.

Warmer air looming, just out west.

The days ahead: 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴

New record low for a second day in a row. So far, -16 is the new record for Lincoln (previous: -9 in 1918).

One more dangerously cold morning. Wind chills in Lincoln already approaching -30°.

One. More. Night.

Worst "real feel" statewide this morning was Brewster, Nebraska, closing in on almost -60° 😞

Coldest low temperatures ever observed on February 20th since records started in 1887... for everyone outside of the circled area across the state. Records = shattered!

I'll GLADLY take some positive wind chills later today ☀️

The entire state is under an Extreme Cold Warning early Thursday. Wind chills are pushing almost -45° in central Nebraska, at times -30 to -35 in Lincoln with even just a little wind. Frostbite can happen in as little as 10 minutes!

Trying to get to YouTube videos more regularly... so join me in this morning's weather discussion with severe cold now and spring-like temperatures soon!
