To fight against climate + water dis/misinfo, we need to build trust & shape the bigger story instead of chasing every falsehood. Join us, Philip Newell (@caadcoalition.bsky.social), and @abbierichards.bsky.social for our March 5 roundtable to discuss strategy: zoom.us/webinar/regi...

NOAA staff members have been told to search their existing grants for terms that include “climate science,” “climate crisis,” “clean energy,” “environmental quality” and “pollution.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/c... @nytimes.com

And… here’s another palate cleanser. Meet my queen, Penny. This little morsel is probably getting cataract surgery soon. But we do what we can for our besties, don’t we? I’d trade less time on this earth to have more time with her.

My art of contemplating death class has been a space to explore hidden parts of myself and personal and collective grief. Grateful to further confront that existence is a mystery and we are just little creatures on a spinning ball of dust hurdling through the abyss of space.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it won’t order soil testing at properties charred by the fires. This breaks with a long-standing safeguard to ensure no lingering contamination is left behind after fires, my colleague Tony Briscoe reports: www.latimes.com/environment/... @latimes.com

We might have a few less seats in Congress but we’re not going to be the minority. We’re going to be the opposition. Thanks @leximcmenamin.bsky.social & @teenvogue.com for covering. www.teenvogue.com/story/maxwel...

Toxic ash from the #LAFires is being dumped in landfills near communities, raising concerns about #Groundwater contamination. As local resident Erick Fefferman says, “Let’s not compound one disaster and create another one.” More from Tony Briscoe in @latimes.com ⬇️

I’m taking a class on contemplating death to live a better life. I registered before the election. Who knew it would be a helpful resource in these times.

What a treat 🫠

To my comrades staring into the abyss, here’s a void worth stopping your scrolling for, fresh from her bath.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

But I did go see a nerdy screening/lip synced performance of Repo! The Genetic Opera tonight and it was the campy respite I needed. It felt like going to a bootleg Rocky Horror Picture Show hang.

Got an EV before the IRA incentives are incinerated because we live in a dumpster fire.

Top EPA appointees include David Fotouhi, a lawyer who recently challenged a ban on asbestos; Alex Dominguez, a former oil lobbyist who will work on automobile emissions; and Aaron Szabo, a lobbyist for both the oil and chemical industries. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/25/c...

Half-asleep late night grazing at the fridge as a coping mechanism. I’m forecasting a trend.

Guardian vs. NYT. You know who's going to call things by their true names and who's not even gonna give you syrup with that waffle. Guardian: "Elon Musk waded into controversy on Monday when he gave back-to-back fascist-style salutes....

Unsurprised. Unwavering.

🔥 Megafires are more than a fire crisis—they can also trigger a water crisis. A hotter, drier climate means fires burn larger, polluting drinking water supplies. Communities across the West have faced this firsthand. Swipe to learn more about the #LAFires from the #WECRCaucus➡️

URGENT: Here’s a list of campaigns to support Black families displaced by the LA fires. Bit.ly/rebuildAD h/t: @ykreborn.bsky.social

It’s weird to come on here to just say that collective grief from the LA fires makes my body feel heavy and my heart broken. This isn’t just impacting the rich and famous despite the chatter out there: capitalbnews.org/california-w...

as LA is burning, a swath of the country is recovering from an ice storm, Alabama is preparing for up to 6” of snow and I’m praying for the TX power grid, a reminder: we don’t need climate action just for future generations, we need it now. the climate crisis is here, all around us

People whose homes were destroyed will have to find accommodations. "That will not be easy in a metro area that, as of 2022, already had a shortage of about 337,000 homes, according to data from Zillow." www.nytimes.com/2025/01/09/b...

50 years of the Safe Drinking Water Act— a milestone worth celebrating! But as Liz Kirkwood from For Love of Water (FLOW) reminds us, challenges like lead, #PFAS, & water shutoffs remain. Hear her story & add yours to the SDWA50 map: www.rivernetwork.org/sdwa50th/

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Safe Water Drinking Act. I was 12 when it was enacted and I can’t believe I have to fight for safe clean water today! @waterhub.bsky.social

It's the 50th anniversary of the #SafeDrinkingWaterAct 🚰 & our taps have it to thank-- from Great Lakes communities like Milwaukee to Gulf South homes in New Orleans. Learn more & share why #SafeAffordableWater matters to you. #SDWA50

December is a great time to reflect and report out. My colleague @jessicajewell.bsky.social and I shared lessons and learnings from the @waterhub.bsky.social #JustInfrastructure campaign this afternoon. Justinfrastructure.org

Today's Senate hearing celebrated the 50th anniversary of the #SafeDrinkingWaterAct— a transformative moment for water and health in the U.S. As water warrior and former EPA Assistant Administrator, Radhika Fox shared, this law "saved lives and created jobs." 🛠️💧 #SDWA50
