When I die, God is going to say “thank you for being really stressed out reading posts at 1:30am; that was the true and deep work of being alive. ❤️”

Aside from whatever else it was, the Daily Dot was the first place to hire me as a staff reporter, let me find my own beat, and introduced me to most of my closest friends in media. I cannot believe it outlasted places like BuzzFeed and Vice.

Really sad. Andrew's right. Fantastic writers & editors came out of Dot, including @ejdickson.bsky.social. (Why I only worked there for 4 months is a story I'll tell another day after a couple of rum drinks ...) If anyone at the Dot wants advice for freelancing, reach out anytinme.

This is actually a thing I think about a lot. There are some things you can say (if you're a douche) "I'm really rich so it won't hurt me." But no matter how wealthy you are, without regulations there is no reliable way to know your food is safe. It's not visible.

JOURNALISTS OF BLUESKY: I'm hiring! We're looking for a talented reporter to join the Lexington Herald-Leader on the Bluegrass Politics team. This position will cover state government — the legislature, Gov. Andy Beshear, agencies, etc. — and Kentucky politics. Questions? Reach out to me.

If you are my friend, I’ll either text you a depressing 8,000 word New Yorker feature, or the stupidest Instagram reel of a parrot dancing that you’ve ever seen. There is no in between.

The loss of Virginia Guiffre really hurts. Sometimes survivors ultimately don’t survive, and so many people forget or never even realize how much harder trauma makes absolutely everything, including healing from other physical trauma and all the emotional wounds that always heal so slow.

(1/3) I’m putting my public defender hat on to explain this. SCOTUS ruled on April 10 that the Trumpists can take kidnapped persons wherever they like, and venue resides there. The ruling implicitly urged the government to take people far from family, friends, witnesses, money, documents, evidence.

one thing that Democratic politicians should take note of is that the overlap between “great political optics” and “actual morally good stuff” is really big right now
