I resent that people are saying it's just "desk jockies" who were fired from the Forest Service. No. These were field techs and timber markers and people who served on militia fire crews as a collateral duty. They're also the people that keep IMTs running. Logistics, comms, planning, READs etc.

This is a mōlī (Laysan Albatross) chick who fledged from Kīlauea Point NWR last summer. It’s one of the few protected seabird colonies in the main Hawaiian islands. The entire biologist team (+ their only facilities management person) at this NWR was fired with no warning yesterday.

Measles outbreak in west Texas doubles in 3 days to 48 infected. 13 are hospitalized, which is a hospitalization rate of 27%--an astounding number, epidemiologist pals tell me. They say it'll keep spreading through the unvaxxed kids there, of whom there are plenty, esp. in private religious schools.
