If the pardon process used to be "bonkers" when it was actually being followed, I wonder how law professor @rachelbarkow.bsky.social would describe it now. You can find Just Justice wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

Curious about the pardon process? Or at least the way that the pardon process used to be before you-know-who took office? Join me on this week's episode of Just Justice with @rachelbarkow.bsky.social, who brilliantly unpacks the hows and whys of pardons. Links below in the comments.

I was going to write a Valentine's edition of my monthly justice-related newsletter. And I just couldn't find enough news to love. Waiting until next week when there is no "love" pressure, bc I sure have lots to say.

Hey Bluesky, I left that bluebird where I had a lot of engagement to come here... but I'm finding it hard to gain traction and connect with people. Any suggestions?

I am a diehard, forever NY Giants fan. And normally I'd never support the Eagles. But politics make these times anything but normal. GO BIRDS.

New slogan for the Dems: "it’s the eggs, stupid."

Kelly Savage-Rodriguez defines survivor. She survived years of abuse as a child and later in her marriage. She survived criminal prosecution for the murder of her son -- a crime she did not commit or intend.

An excellent thread on the critically important work of @USAID.

Almost slipped by me in the chaos. Trump signed an EO to expand the death penalty to cases that do not involve a homicide -- despite a 2008 SCOTUS ruling that says the death penalty for non- non-homicide cases violates the 8th Amendment. That's all I got this morning. #endthedeathpenalty

The US has a dark history of incredibly long prison sentences. But it doesn't have to be that way. Here's how you can hold your lawmakers accountable in 2025 for high-impact criminal justice reform 👇 https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/winnable2025.html

#LawProf Steve Zeidman is a legal hero, in a criminal legal system starved for justice. This week on the Just Justice podcast, we talk about his fight for second chances @cunylaw.bsky.social. Join us where ever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

After pardoning the J-6 people and issuing so many EOs, he proudly announced on national television that on his 1st night in office he'd be busy ...,watching college football.

Sorry to repost from that other place but this was sent to me by a person who was terrified/horrified and it's way out of my area of expertise. Can someone explain possible human extinction from AGI by 2029? x.com/aisafetymeme...

It's going to be -3 tonight and -10 tomorrow night. Real numbers. I'm not even sure what to say.

Second look laws could provide a path to freedom for so many deserving people. Georgia needs one to correct unfair sentences. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/17/u...

In the last week, we've all watched in sorrow as California burns. Over 900 incarcerated people are working to help douse the LA blazes. These (mostly) men are part of California’s conservation fire camp program and add a much-needed boost to under-resourced fire teams. (a thread)

So... Greenland? Anyone care to explain?

These are great! Need more!!

Crim law peeps and music fans, I'm putting together a playlist about second chances. What's your favorite songs about second chances (any genre, any era)?

Alabama sends $ 1.75 per day to counties to feed prisoners. Steve Bright tells us how the Morgan County Sheriff actually *made* money: by serving incarcerated people nothing but corn dogs. #DemandTheImpossible

Just Justice is in the top 10% of all podcasts!!! Thank you to all who have supported the show, who shared their stories, and who have worked tirelessly toward a vision of what justice can and should be. Happy 2025!

Just Justice ranked in the global top 10% of podcasts. (Listen Notes) Don't bother telling what's wrong with that stat. I'm busy savoring the moment.

I guess we didn't really need that first round draft pick, @nygiantsnation.bsky.social

To all who oppose the death penalty, consider signing this petition urging Pres. Biden to #finishthejob by commuting the three remaining federal death row sentences and the sentences of people on military death row. actionnetwork.org/petitions/bi...

Hey #blueskylaw, I'm looking for stories about medical parole or compassionate release (the good, the bad, and the ugly). Would love to connect!

I've been getting a lot of texts and emails about Biden's clemency for the 37 men on federal death row. I'm really happy about that. But I'm also conflicted. Because 3 people are still on federal death row. If the death penalty is wrong (and it is) then it is wrong for everyone.
