I am grateful for all the lessons from Mom I didn’t want to learn. She expected a lot and I’d like to believe we eventually measured up. Our first Mother’s Day without her. ❤️

WATCH: “This is how Fox spreads disinformation. It’s sad to see Alexis McAdams be part of that machine.” Receipts of Fox News lying to their audience about the arrest of Mayor Ras Baraka with false headlines and selectively edited clips. As usual.

what specifically makes our world less safe? We’ve lost the checks & balances that make sure that the standards for products are met and maintained. counterfeit and 95. Fake stamps of approval. That’s dangerous for healthcare and any industry where protection from particulates is needed.

I am sure people as smart as Elon Musk and others in the current administration could find ways to cut wasteful spending without eliminating the parts that keep us safe, but they’re not. Why make our world less safe? I’m afraid it’s because to them we are expendable. insignificant. and plentiful.

What strikes me here is the importance and value in skepticism. I want people to be skeptical! I want them to question AND be able to critically interpret the answers they are given. A source is not inherently more reliable because they’re a ‘fellow Mom’ or a ‘holistic hoo-ha’. Question them all!

To be effective, our opposition to today's abuses must run alongside a clear picture of what we are actually for - and how everyday life could be better with different leadership.

Today on Bereaved Mothers Day: I see you. I stand with you. Your child’s life mattered, and will always matter.

Fascinating topic and very valuable info for anyone caring for mpox patients. but wow, be ready for those images of affected eyes. yikes.

Love that sign.

Great time with great people. Tristan, Stefanie, and Caroline are fantastic. ❤️

“The power of the people is stronger than the people in power.” love this. I want to be on the side of good, always.

I can’t imagine the grief of losing a child. For some people “it’s just the flu” couldn’t be further from the truth. Cover your cough, wear a mask, wash your hands. #vaccinessavelives

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Ch... Maybe folks don’t remember, but sometimes inspections and regulations are important to our safety. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Life saving work HAS stopped. Our food supply, our PPE, our highways and airways are all less safe.

I hope other Universities understand the power in unity. I know people are scared - and rightfully so - seeing their life work set on fire, but there is no successful way forward that bows to fascism. Let’s all look back on these dark days with pride for standing up for what is right.

Ditto for You can’t say your employees are your most valuable resource and then treat them badly. Too many employers want it both ways.

PPE isn’t always fun, but it can be! Great group of HCWs working on being prepared for whatever might come next. Join us! [email protected]

Emory, are you listening?

With measles cases up by another 100+, the Texas outbreak has now reached over 20 other states. Many (>25%) of those cases are in adults. Keep your index of suspicion high and a respirator handy!

NIOSH has apparently not been downsized, it has been 90% gutted. We need innovation in PPE. We need miner, HCW, and general worker safety and the dedicated scientists who understand material science, standards, and the needs of workers that only NIOSH provides.

I need to learn how to edit my posts. ☹️

Life feels pretty chat right now for all sorts of reasons. The best way to get thru is to PREPARE and that’s what these brilliant folks are up to:

It is more than a bit ironic for this to be the start of National Public Health Week. I am personally indebted to the fantastic people @GaDPH who juggle so many scary things with friendly aplomb.

Yosemite, Half Dome, Mammoth Lakes, the John Muir Wilderness are all beautiful places but the deer mouse can carry hantavirus in this area and people need to be very careful not to breathe in mouse waste - which can happen sweeping or cleaning shelters, cabins, or other areas mice like to be.

Here’s how to stay in the fight: 📱 Use the 5 Calls app or Resist Bot to contact your elected officials daily. 🎤 Demand town halls. Show up at their public appearances. 🚫 Boycott evil corporations. 🗣️ Talk to your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. 🌳 Build community power. #FiftyFiftyOne

We can surrender to the forces of autocracy, bigotry, xenophobia, and minoritarian rule. Or we can organize the pro-democracy majority to reclaim its power. We choose to organize: indivisible.org/groups

When we first saw others clearly headed to Piedmont Park for the march on Saturday, I was relieved. The crowd was MUCH larger than I expected. How has it come to this? How have we gotten to be a nation turning away from science, progress, justice, and kindness?

Brought to tears today by the show of support for the CDC. Brilliant people, who could’ve worked anywhere but chose to serve the greater good.

wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/... Have you ever had food poisoning? the numbers are pretty staggering: 9.9million cases of domestically acquired food-borne illness and 53k hospitalizations. Surveillance of pathogens and inspections for food safety are important, let’s keep those people, please. 🙄

One more thing for ED triage staff to worry about: is this person c/o fever at risk for measles? we don’t often think about this kind of vax status in adults but need to now. Rapid identification and isolation is difficult and important!

Vieques is beautiful

These are dark days. I am waiting, I think as many are, for some leader to emerge and lead the fight to restore the rule of law and the separation of powers that are the fundamental building blocks of what was a civil society. 💔

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on Monday, Feb. 17, Presidents Day, to protest the actions of President Donald Trump’s administration.

📣 Dr. Shawn Gibbs, PhD, MBA, CIH, dean and professor at Texas A&M University School of Public Health, was named to the CDC NIOSH Board of Scientific Counselors. Dr. Gibbs contributes to NETEC’s PPE and IPC workgroups & advises on Category A waste management. Congrats, Dr. Gibbs! 🔗 ow.ly/5qcK50UZJ1x
