Such a valuable, voice-amplifying resource

The interns in the @riverteeth.bsky.social literary editing class wanted to know how we handle so many submissions; happily, I'd suffered a monstrous subconjunctival hemorrhage that morning, so I could say, "We read until our eyeballs bleed." I thought I was hilarious. They looked kind of terrified.

Maggie got a snowy walk for her 7th birthday ❄️❄️❄️

Thank you, Robbie, and all the amazing, dedicated folks @therumpus.net (looking at you, @darcyjaygagnon.bsky.social). I'm over the moon 🌔

Grateful for the Skylab ❤️🚀🕸️

Soggy skirt? Dampened bows? Tis the season for me to remind you that the very best tree-watering vessel is an empty wine bottle. Pick a pretty one🎄❤️💦

Once it becomes impossible to extract any more money, the project gets abandoned no matter how much intangible value it creates. Left unchecked, this system devours us all. We have to recognize values beyond money.

Here's a fantastic curated list for all you essay lovers out there

Mark’s new book is in the world 🔥🔥🔥

I'm coming up to read to y'all, South Bend friends. Big thanks to @rebeccaslehmann.bsky.social for inviting me! @kelceyervick.bsky.social @dionneirving.bsky.social

Kate was in the MFA program at the University of Minnesota when I was the coordinator there waaaay back at the turn of the century. (Am I patting myself on the back for publishing this Beautiful Thing on a day I assumed would be cold, but maybe not THIS cold? Why yes. Yes I am.)

I was voice-to-texting a friend who will be housebound for the next couple of weeks with words of comfort, suggesting he look at this time as a "forced writing retreat"--but it came out "forest riding retreat." Which is better, honestly.

Y'all: I just brought @riverteeth.bsky.social into this blue, blue world. Give us a follow & help me convince the young people the writers are really here!

While I persist in being the dinosaur invoking Stein's "Anyone?.. ." in class, I confess I'd forgotten he was talking about tariffs. Tariffs, people!

So good to see you in this place, Marcus--and to read your heartbreaking, gorgeous poem that gets exactly right this moment I'm so sorry you and your beloved share: "This unexpected gift I didn’t know to want for until it was offered."

Brilliant--& good for ending essays, too, of course. I'll be integrating this into a revision/endings class next week: thank you, @emilyskaja.bsky.social (When I'm struggling with an ending, I go for a walk and hope to see something new that has nothing to do with the essay I've been writing)

Thanks, friends! An essay in which a couple of orb weavers break bread in zero gravity--& people tell me things. Big things. @therumpus.net

Overheard in waiting room: [sweet moment wherein Man #2 removes the size sticker from Man #1's leg] M #1: Thanks, man. M #2: New pants? M #1: "My wife left me for my sister and she took everything--my '55 Chevy, my little white dog, and my wallet." M #2: "For your SISTER?" M #1: "For my sister."

"Things Not Always Seen" by Bex Hoffer--a beautiful thing for your Monday morning. 🐢💕 @riverteeth.bsky.social riverteethjournal.com/beautiful-th...

Join me in July (from anywhere!) for a cnf class on writing the hard stuff--& receive a copy of IF THIS WERE FICTION. I mean. That's pretty cool, no? www.lafayettewritersstudio.com/classes/hard...

On this bright, blue sky Saturday morning, Maggie May reminds us all to stay present. Pay attention.

Just drove past the spot where, last year, at about this time, we saw a pig on a leash dining on roadkill. The pig was decked out in a Christmas sweater. Best day of my life.

Squeeze your bones! #SkeletonsOfMuncie

So happy “The Lucky Ones” is a 2023 BAE Notable. Big thanks to the editors ⁦⁦@The_Rumpus & BAE!

Gentlemen, it has been a privilege playing with you tonight

Draw me like one of your French girls

Near, far, where-eeeeeever you are. . .

It turns out I haven't the capacity to attend to more than one site at a time, but I realize I'm not giving Bluesky the skeleton content, and that seems wrong. I'll try harder.

Just learned I'm a semi-finalist for the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association Award 2023. Help me to get out the vote & make IF THIS WERE FICTION a finalist! https://bit.ly/47GfFvF

Our daughter is taking her first freeway drive--with a professional driving instructor--even as we speak, and I'm fine. I'm just fine. I'm sitting here filling in some dates on my calendar, chill as can be. Yup.
