Sunrise in the mountains

I mean ... I'll probably be overly excited & weird about research. But join in! It's free! Thanks for the opportunity, @anthonyperillo.bsky.social. #PsychLaw

My husband had a scary medical emergency yesterday. He's somewhat stable now but needs surgery asap. Grateful to be on sabbatical to write a book (which one can do from an ER triage room, turns out) & not having to manage course logistics at this time.

Not as much snow as the last storm, but a gradual snowfall throughout the afternoon.

Much more productive day today, with 2 1/2 hours of writing on the book alone. Also cleared my IRB queue and did some policy revisions that I've been neglecting. Here, my faithful assistant is on the lookout for more snow.

Today was supposed to be a day of productive writing & taking my younger teen to see Wicked (now that we're all over the many viruses from break). Instead, both of us got raging migraines overnight & spent the entire day in bed in the dark, quite miserable. 2025, I expected better of you.

Taking a Saturday sick day (thanks, germy kiddos). Went back to bed and turned the bed heater on. The cat VERY much approves.

My daughter assures me she will never join a cult & then proceeds to detail reasonable, well-thought reasons why she would not be susceptible to cult influence. #1 - Yes, I get that our conversations are weird. Maybe we watch too much true crime together. #2 - No cults = parenting win.

Continuing the "my kids don't like holiday food" tradition, we've vetoed the Christmas lasagna this year. Instead, chicken tenders (veg nuggets for my daughter), with a Hot Ones style lineup of every sauce imaginable. Plus, mac & cheese, salad, & cheddar biscuits. Sounds easier....

Oh my. Hilarious, but so on the nose it stings a little.

These teens were stabbed the same day of the murder of the UH CEO. One teen died. I'm reposting because this crime is not getting comparable attention.

My son's high school debate team took first place in their regional competition today. He was gone for 12+ hours & returned home to find I'd made him Cajun chicken & baked bread for dinner. He hugged me & said, "I love you, mom." Holding onto this, as he will leave for college all too soon. 😳🥺😥

“I have too many books” -judgemental -boring -implies impulse-control issues “The books... they have me.” - mysterious - occult - implies you are at the mercy of a library of books that have gained sentience and are holding you hostage #readingcommunity

2nd snowfall of the season! Thankful for a two-hour school delay and rescheduled appointments. Needed some time back to catch up.

Completing paperwork to supervise a couple of post docs. TN Lic. Board: Here's the form. Me: It says I'm not authorized to access the form. Them: Try this one. Me: <completes & has form notarized> Them: It's the wrong form. Try this one. Me: It says I'm not authorized to access the form.

My colleague @drapryla.bsky.social, quoted in a recent article about the harms of solitary confinement in juvenile detention facilities, where many youth have histories of trauma & maltreatment that are only worsened by the harm of isolation. Check it out below!

Last 2 weeks of the semester! Let's do this 😭 #AcademicSky

Showed this to my teenagers, who are DONE with each other on day 3 of break. Elder teen called it slander & blasphemy. Younger teen solemnly nodded & indicated 🎯 💯. Grateful for being an only child.

My family vetoed traditional Thanksgiving fare this year. Instead, the agreed-upon menu includes bacon cheeseburgers (some real, some veggie), baked beans, curly fries, & zucchini-tomato casserole. Gotta admit, that's a normal meal, & SO MUCH EASIER. Thanks, fam.

Who knew a creepy little tale could make one teary? Enjoy.

Checked out the scholargoggler.com word cloud for my titles & abstracts indexed on Google Scholar. This tracks. Disturbing, but fairly accurate.

Today was snowy & cold. Everyone is tired & limping to semester's end. Instead of normal lab meeting, I told all to bring laptops & something they need to work on - paper, report, grad app, etc. Husband bought snacks for us: huge vat of Chex mix, cookies, fruit, M&Ms, & plain & flavored waters.

Tonight, my youngest furry baby, Luna, is sad and sore. We knew she had some arthritis in her hip, but limping more than usual led to a vet reveal of a tear in knee-area muscles. Rest and anti-inflammatories on tap. And my youngest human baby (teen the younger) comforts her sweet pup. ♥️

Please share this, because this could help some folks with worry. For LGBT married couples, it's time to take steps to protect your marriage in case same-sex marriage is officially dissolved in the coming years. My husband and I did this when Roe V Wade was overturned, so I hope this is helpful. 👇

I feel like we could all use some cute baby red pandas right now.

This is an interesting time for all those working in forensics/criminal justice in the USA. If the most important and powerful job in the country can be held by a convicted repeat offender, then should every job in the country be unequivocally open to all convicted offenders?
