On this day in 1955, Harvard announced Samuel Morison’s retirement. His “History of the American People” was 1150 pages long, but inc. only a few sentences abt. women. Morison reported that “the Women’s Rights movement” “included a number of sensible women reformers” & a “lunatic fringe.” #WeTheMen

Today is Harriet Tubman Day! She freed herself and hundreds of others from bondage before becoming a Union spy, scout & nurse during the Civil War. Her portrait should be on the $20 bill, but Trump has long opposed that plan. #WeTheMen www.npr.org/2025/03/10/n...

I’m off to the airport. I’ll be speaking tomorrow @ Northwestern Law about my new book, #WeTheMen. I am really looking forward to it!

I am delighted to be spending women’s history month as a guest blogger on the @legalhistoryblog.bsky.social. I just uploaded a new post about my book, #WeTheMen. Click here to learn more about Forgotten Women and Men’s Spontaneous Enlightenment. legalhistoryblog.blogspot.com/2025/03/forg...

On this day in 1964, journalist May Craig prodded Sen. Hubert Humphrey about whether he supported a “sex amendment” to Title 7 that would prohibit sex discrim. in employment. After declaring “I am all for women,” he stated: “I think we can accept that provision, and it is a workable one.” #WetheMen

Thank you!

On this day in 2010, Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director. To date, only three women have won the best director Oscar. #WeTheMen

On this day in 1923, Delaware belatedly ratified the 19th Amendment, which prohibits sex-based disenfranchisement. The Delaware Legislature had previously rejected the 19th Amendment on June 2, 1920. Mississippi became the last state to ratify the 19th Amendment on March 22, 1984. #WeTheMen

This Tuesday, March 11, I will be at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law for a lunchtime conversation about my new book, #WetheMen. I'm looking forward to it! Thanks to @hariosofsky.bsky.social for the invitation.

I'm looking forward to this!

I'm really looking forward to this!

More @jillhasday.bsky.social coming soon - but here’s a start! Read that book - global.oup.com/academic/pro...

On this day in 1789, the federal government began operating under the U.S. Constitution. In principle, that Constitution speaks for “We the People.” In practice, powerful Americans have too often limited constitutional protections to #WetheMen.

I had a great conversation w/ Felicia Kornbluh on my book, #WetheMen. We talked about how Susan B. Anthony organized a “Centennial screech for freedom,” a “Women’s Centennial growl.” Felicia's response: "Oh, honey. We hear you." @vtfeminist.bsky.social‬ feliciakornbluh.substack.com/p/history-te...

On this day in 1913: Suffragists held a parade in D.C. Some male spectators responded to the peaceful protest with “nothing less than riots.” Suffragists “were spit upon, slapped in the face, tripped up, pelted with burning cigar stubs, and insulted by jeers and obscene language.” #WetheMen

Book mail is the best mail! Advance copies of my new book arrived today, just in time for #WomensHistoryMonth. In a nation whose Constitution purports to speak for We the People, too many of the stories that powerful Americans tell about law and society include only #WeTheMen. jillhasday.com

Thanks for the recommendation, ‬@lsolum.bsky.social‬. I appreciate it!

Erbsen on Constitutional Limits on the President's Authority to Adjourn Congress, https://buff.ly/4gCMAF2 - Allan Erbsen (University of Minnesota - Twin Cities - School of Law) has posted Constitutional Limits on the President's Authority to Adjourn Congress on SSRN.

Congrats to my @umnlawschool.bsky.social colleague Allan Erbsen for receiving a coveted "timely & highly recommended" from @lsolum.bsky.social for his new article on recess appointments, congressional adjournment, & the Disagreement Clause. Read it while it's hot! papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

Was it just a coincidence Texas filed this suit after the election rather than before?

On the one hand, I love this. On the other, it demonstrates law's failure to meaningfully address phone scams. When the legal system does not offer adequate remedies for deception, people tend to turn to self-help—for better or for worse. #intimatelies www.npr.org/2024/12/10/n...

My @umnlawschool.bsky.social colleague Allan Erbsen has just recently posted a full law review article @ssrn.bsky.social on this topic as well. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
