Such awful news. The Jam were the very embodiment of the expression the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And how great they were… www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This may be the most wholesome thing I’ve seen in years. Absolutely lovely. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Happy half term.

What a week. Cheers!

This is as hysterical as those shouting ‘vandalism’. Just as most academies are not abusing their ‘freedoms’ and most maintained schools are doing a cracking job, most CEOs and MATs are quietly getting on with supporting their schools and serving their communities. schoolsweek.co.uk/its-time-for...

‘But the charity has not said whether it will publish a list of donors.’ A whiff of Tufton Street about this. schoolsweek.co.uk/new-schools-...

Characteristically excellent stuff from @jonnyuttley.bsky.social

Eighty years ago today, over 7,000 prisoners of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz, including some 700 children, were liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Army. 1,689 days of murder, pain, suffering, and humiliation were over. Today, we all remember. We must keep remembering.

The @HeadsRoundtable continues to be the public voice of the sensible, ethical majority in the profession. I know I am far from the only one who greatly appreciates their collective wisdom and leadership. 👏👏👏

There is an unpleasant, gaslighting narrative being created by the right in education about the supposed views of teachers and leaders. What I hear is a huge amount of support for the first sensible and informed SoS we have had for years.

A balanced analysis. It will never catch on.

I know loads of schools leaders and teachers who are completely ambivalent about the Bill. Mainly because there’s nothing contentious about it. Vast majority follow the NC/STPC. You could argue that where this doesn’t happen, it benefits some schools at the expense of others.

May be of interest to fellow plodders. www.thetimes.com/article/37fd...

Love visiting the People’s Republic of Yorkshire. Such friendly folk.

21 year old daughter is back from university and using the kitchen to work. One of the loveliest things about having adult children is catching glimpses of them as their younger selves.

There is nothing left to cut. Nothing. Schools have already slashed spending on staffing and resources, always to the detriment of the pupils. @theguardian.com www.theguardian.com/education/20...

Not convinced that ‘fun’ is the correct emphasis here. Sometimes you just have to learn stuff because it’s important to know it. Not everything can be ‘fun’. www.thetimes.com/article/94e7...

To all the brilliant folk working in education (particularly my @ClarionCorvus colleagues and communities) I wish you all a happy, healthy and successful 2025.
