This. To my knowledge, no UK govt has ever bothered to build a consistent narrative that net zero will directly benefit regular people and working families. It's reminiscent of Brexit, where it was simply _assumed_ people understood the value of being in Europe. But no one did.

Usually the counterpoint to “president says false thing” is not “BUT he believes it.”

#BBC’s diplomatic corr James Landale: “If you want a measure of the scale of the transatlantic rift, consider this: I am told yesterday was the 1st time since 1945 the #US voted with #Russia & against #Europe at the #UN on an issue of #European #security. Just let that sink in.” 1/4

🔺 UPDATED: The Kremlin has denied a claim by President Trump that Russia would accept European peacekeeping troops being deployed to Ukraine as part of a potential deal to end the conflict ⬇️

Getting angrier and angrier with the ahistorical nonsense spewing from Johnson on this. Far from "stiffing us", this is what the repayment terms were

Rinse and repeat - The Daily Mail broke a promise not to repeat a false allegation against me - so today in the high court they apologise again - and pay costs and damages - again. Their cash is on the way to Gaza again. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crim...

Why does 25% AfD among young men spark a thousand "what is going on with young men?" posts yet Die Linke 34% among young women generates...nothing at all? Yes, young men voting for the radical right is an important phenomenon. But so is young women going rad left *at even higher rates*.

Here they come. The Quisling fucking cowards, lining up to machine gun what's left of their reputation.

Interested to read that this NATO exercise taking place in Romania, just 13 miles from the border of Ukraine is not only NATO’s largest exercise of the year, Operation Steadfast Dart, preparing a Europe defence, but also has zero 🇺🇸 troops, which is highly unusual. www.lbc.co.uk/opinion/view...

Successful second homes crackdown means homes are £30k cheaper for Cymry, who actually need them.

"It’s time for Labour to make good on its many promises. It’s time for decisive, clear action to end the scandal of water pollution once and for all." From the great Robert Macfarlane. goodlaw.social/r2o0

The slippery, sane-washing desperation of Boris Johnson as he realises what his whole-hearted backing of Trump means. Excruciating.

Since putting up this crowdfunding page, the Daily Mail has sent us, through their lawyers (RPC), two defamation threats. A few points about them. 🧵 goodlawproject.org/crowdfunder/...

The Daily Mail has for a long time been protecting a senior journalist who it knows to be a sexual predator. We are helping his victims get justice by suing the Daily Mail - and him. goodlaw.social/24jb

We are nearing a precipice.

No one in Berlin won’t commit to troops before the election. Might be very different in a week from today. Germany will hardly be able to stand on the sidelines after this. 👇

Trump and DOGE accused federal civil servants of fraud (with no evidence). Meanwhile, they're halting enforcement of a foreign anti-bribery law, dropping criminal charges against Eric Adams, and pardoning a former governor who tried to sell Obama's Senate seat. Hello?

It’s a cliché to say it—and no two historical scenarios offer a perfectly compelling analogy—but what each American is doing now is what they’d be doing were they a German living in Germany and were it 1936-38 There’s no more doubt about who the appeasers or the bad guys are—they’re in the open now

Trump has little leverage over Ukraine. They’ll fight because they don’t want to be exterminated. Nordics Baltics and Poland will support UA.They can’t let Russia grab its resources and men. W Europe has a choice tomorrow: run from UA and split the EU, or back them and save its honour and security.

“He wrote he had accepted her resignation “based on your choice to continue pursuing a politically motivated prosecution despite an express instruction to dismiss the case. You lost sight of the oath that you took when you started at the Department of Justice.””

Trump-Musk actions hit Yosemite: "decades of efforts to protect the park’s ecosystems for future generations are being derailed" www.sfgate.com/california-p...

Who the fuck does Trump think he is? Telling Ukraine about its territorial concessions without involving it in talks. Telling Europe about its responsibilities without providing any assistance.

Fascist thug

Military historian Sir Antony Beevor on Times Radio on Trump-Putin: "We should always distrust historical parallels, especially those from WW2...but there is a really very frightening echo of the betrayal of Czechoslovakia in 1938 and the idea that one can deal over the heads of a suffering nation"

It's noticeable how many countries with American-style constitutions have legislatures cowed by this sort of stuff and essentially imperial presidencies, with elections that are incredibly tense

As Congress behaves as if it's functionally shut down, it's important to understand how Trump has done it. The stereotype is tanks and an emergency decree or whatever, but here it's been the combination of two things: the threat of political destruction and the threat of violence.

Supermarket shelves packed with exotic fruit year-round are a modern luxury—but at what cost? Dr Sven Batke explores why the UK must rethink food production and invest in smarter, more sustainable greenhouses. From @uk.theconversation.com

A brilliant piece of diplomatic theatre today. After Russian drones again violated Moldova’s airspace & exploded close to populated areas, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. As he entered the meeting, he was confronted with parts of the exploded drones. (🎥 IPN, Moldova)

@hannahritchie.bsky.social Late catching up with Not the End In Climate Change, your last chart, What we think is effective, doesn't include domestic gas central heating I'd have thought that would be at least as good/bad as driving a car??? Why did you not include it?

Musk killed these people.

🚨 Danish 🇩🇰 Intelligence warns Russia 🇷🇺 could be ready for large scale war on Europe within 5 years if it ceases fighting in Ukraine…and be ready to invade several Baltic States within 2 years www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/202...

Peskov: "Russia has never discussed and will never discuss the topic of exchanging its territory.&, of course,Ukrainian forces will be expelled from this territory.Everyone who is not destroyed will be expelled” He said that Russia&Putin are "open for peace negotiations,it's a consecutive position"

Labour MPs who won their seats with Reform in 2nd place are whingeing at ministers to get tougher on immigration. Does anyone know what the Greens & LibDems are up to? At the moment there seems to be a vacancy on the moral high ground. @pecksniffsdiary.bsky.social

Truly abysmal goings-on at the Mirror, as reported in Private Eye. Literally holding my head in my hands reading this.

The post below is important. Two things are happening simultaneously: our democracy is collapsing as a result of an in-progress fascist coup major media is ignoring, and those of us who write about the coup regularly will see our mental health jeopardized if we do not also write about other things.

Correct. A friend suggested that next month Trump will use his awesome tariff powers to get U.S. Customs agents placed *inside* Canadian airports and, wow, if Trump succeeds in pulling that off, I'll be impressed.

Here is something from a contract lawyer's perspective. Trump is not "transactional", for he will never be bound. Indeed, he is anti-transactional. A transaction is an exchange, an agreement. But for Trump the agreement is only there to be repudiated, so to gain leverage for his next demand.

Insanity and idiocy combined.

"And due to a terrible miscalculation of scale, the entire US-Canada trade war was accidentally swallowed by a small Fentanyl Czar."

Anyone who happened to know that the White House would announce and then suspend tariffs within 24 hours just made a boatload of money.

It is time to end the special relationship with Trump? Donald Trump in the White House: a relationship with a dishonest sexual predator and convicted criminal isn't a relationship. It's abuse @chasmanthium.bsky.social

It’s all theatrics and performative. Trump creates the problem or challenge. Trump then offers a fake fix or solution to the fake problem or challenge. Trump sycophants then cheer him as a genius and a political leader and problem-solver for the ages. Rinse and repeat. Theatrics. That’s it.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉
