At a winter fly-tying evening. Am the youngest person here 😂 Have tied this water snail imitation and am now f’ing about with the magnifying glass thing #troutfishing #flyfishing

Been doing a lot of research into the growing role AI / machine learning can play in publishing workflows. Feel massively out of my comfort zone - but I guess that’s healthy!

Old picture just found! Me in 1992 in New Zealand, outside the Turangi Smoke House, delivering a big Tongariro brown trout for smoking. And yes, it was delicious! (Though these days I would of course had released it - times today very different!)

The view from the back of my gaff (house for those over the pond!) yesterday morning… When the horizon merges into the grey of the misty sky

Beautiful, sunny, cold winter’s day today. And the first trout of the new year coming to the bank at Rutland Water! #troutfishing #flyfishing

Teaching the boy about fish! (Actual fish, not the vocalist who’s moving to the Outer Hebrides!) He decided to call this one ‘Beast’, probably cause he’d just watched Beauty and the Beast…

Two lovely rainbows for me on Xmas Eve from Rutland Water: can’t grumble! A lovely early present. Happy Christmas! #troutfishing #flyfishing

Throwback to various trips to NZ and fishing for the big wild browns of the Ngongataha stream, just outside Rotorua. Proper jungle fly-fishing warfare! #flyfishing #trout #nzflyfishing

A nice brownie for my friend, Mick, yesterday. I managed a 3lb ‘bow too, so a good winter’s day on the bank I think! #flyfishing #trout #fishing

Lol - this amuses me! What are the chances

Lovely little brown trout caught yesterday evening from Rutland Water. Not the biggest trout I’ve caught there by a long way but its ‘silveryness’ (not even a word but hey!) makes it unusual. On a river could have passed for a sea trout!

Back in the summer when it was a bit warmer and the trout were hitting surface fry patterns… #troutfishing #flyfishing

Just won an award at work today: for entrepreneurship. Who’d have thunk it!!! First time I’ve won something like that since I’ve been with my current employer

#carpfishing was a big part of my life between 1995 and 2015. Not so much now that I have a young son! Maybe again some day. Here are some fish from Grenville Lake - one of the UK’s finest waters today… these fish though were caught in 2010. Wonder if they’re still alive!

And on the music front, I had a first listen today to the newly released deluxe remix of @marillion.com’s 1997 album, ‘This Strange Engine’. It’s ace! One of their most underrated works IMO: the keys solo in the title track is on my ‘must learn’ list (if I ever get the time, being a toddler dad…)

A few years back now, but Cuba was / is one of my favourite countries to visit. Beautiful, friendly people and the saltwater #flyfishing is out of this world. Isla de la Juventud especially

Miss New Zealand. The best #flyfishing #troutfishing in the world: if you can find the right river, away from pressure. Hopefully one day I’ll go back. Not been for 5 years now

Winter action for my mate Mick fly fishing off the 1km-long dam wall at Rutland Water, UK #flyfishing #troutfishing

My other passion at the moment: learning these things. Just when you think you can play something, you try and add the bass via pedals. And it all goes tits-up! #music #organist #keyboards
