"A fast-paced, hardboiled tale with a warm heart. Jim Fusilli’s protagonist is a man of integrity and passion, dedicated to music, underdogs, hard work, food, and the love of his life." - Howard Fishman, author of "To Anyone Who Ever Asks: The Life, Music, and Mystery of Connie Converse."

Many Americans worry freedom of speech is fading, while others feel empowered to say what they want. NPR's Morning Edition explores this dynamic in a new series, "The State of the First Amendment."

The Trump administration today placed the staff of the Institute of Museum and Library Services on administrative leave, setting the stage for potentially ending the main source of federal support for the country’s museums and libraries. See the alarming quote by Sonderling. tinyurl.com/y8rbxtns

Heading home after my eighth Big Ears. Amazing, rejuvenating, inspiring as always. Highlights: Fiore Laurentienne (pictured here), Beth Gibbons, Meshell Ndegeocello, Immanuel Wilkins’ Blues Blood, Kris Davis Trio, DakhaBrakha from Ukraine, Kate Sopra’s Ipsa Dixit, Tindersticks.

Lovely moment last night at Big Ears. When the members of the Ukrainian group DakhaBrakha thanked the American people for our ongoing support following Russia's savage invasion, the audience in the vast Tennessee Theatre gave them an enormous ovation. The band members seemed stunned and touched.

So sorry to hear this. A very fine writer who became a friend. connachttribune.ie/death-of-gal...

Immanuel Wilkins’ Blues Blood at Big Ears. A wonderful way to start a day. (To the left of the bassist is a chef preparing a meal. Talk about jazz that cooks!)

Beth Gibbons at Big Ears. Mesmerizing. So good…

At Big Ears and it's MLB Opening Day. How lucky am I?

The latest episode of "Writers at Work" is dedicated to a model of effective autobiographical storytelling - “Vulnicura,” an album by Björk released 10 years ago this month. Her narrative documents what she considered a profound betrayal and her eventual recovery. tinyurl.com/6x6e8xwb

Happy 78th birthday to Elton John, my favorite interview subject. When we spoke about his trio album, "The Diving Board," I found him, once again, to be exactly who you'd want Elton John to be. tinyurl.com/2p9bn2m5

They ripped off my novels and short stories - to which I own the copyrights. I’ve heard from at least a dozen authors who’ve been ripped off too. What are we going to do? @penamerica.bsky.social @authorsguild.bsky.social
