Because he was a stupid and deeply ineffectual lame duck throughout his first term. And after the 20-something day rush of trying to enact his big fascist whatever he'll get bored and move on to renovating his mansion or something.

Trump-Canada is basically Hitler-Poland. Don't know what he thinks will happen there but getting himself hanged.

You all want to see an exceptionally amateur piece of criticism? Check this review of The Brutalist out. Even spells Corbet as "Corbett" throughout. Spoilers by the by. faroutmagazine.co.uk/brady-corbet...

Love guy pearce #guypearce

Alex Proyas effect tbh, the ending to Knowing is so good it completely changed the "We have to stop the Apocalypse" genre.

I love the movies.

Pretty good Oscar nominations this year. Except for that one movie, of course, but hey. Here's to hoping it and everyone involved walks home disappointed and empty-handed.

Congratulations Guy Pearce for his first Oscar nomination, long overdue for Priscilla Queen of the Desert, LA Confidential, Animal Kingdom etc

Nice to see Stan catch a nomination, even nicer to see, uh, Jstrong as, uh, Roy Cohn get one. I did predict both, albeit Stan for a different man, and Strong over Borisov.

I think it's disturbing that some of the more left-leaning coverage in the mainstream media today comes from the FT. Shows just how fascistic the other outlets always have been that not even crazy libertarians are as bad and utterly spineless as them.

So embarrassing, a man so empty that even in his moment of triumph he cannot help but to co-opt the violence of the nazi regime into a reference, a kind of in-joke between himself and the hallucinations of his internet life. The newest amoebic fascist. Stimulus, response.

For no reason at all, I'm thinking of Judgment at Nuremberg.

Both are not good. Goodreads because there is an awful culture of anti-intellectualism that has festered over nearly two decades. Storygraph because the ui is awful and it is designed to cater to goodreads people (the worst kind of people)

Sad that this year is not Saoirse Ronan's clear, undebated Oscar year, because she has truly deserved one ever since Lady Bird. And now she has the double bill of alcoholic movie + period drama in the same year, and will probably not even get nominated. Disappointing.

I quite enjoyed the first sonic movie but apparently the new one is the third? What happened to the second one?

Just absolutely clutched my duolingo streak at 11:55. Riding high. Feeling good.

Yay! Pig.

brand new diner serves coke the normal way

Something that has been a nice surprise is how well The Substance has been doing in Australian cinemas. It's still on every day almost 5 months after release.

Good, and I hope it stays that way for the Oscars. Baker (and other auteurs) should be pushing boundaries in the industry instead of falling into the awards trap. That's why I enjoy The Brutalist, which deconstructs the old epic formula to create a more abstract version of the journey

Corbet's self-marketing this awards season has been very effective partly because he is the obvious choice, a very clear vision that is very easy for even the hackiest critics (the NBP goons, Sasha Stone, the Telegraph's guy) to identify and interpret.

People get mad at the Bear when it gets called a comedy (it is one,) but I've not once seen someone get mad that they put out one of the most unbearably disappointing seasons of TV in recent memory. I am fuming that S3 is just a feel-good emotional maturity fest. Where's the dysfunction?
