We get so used to these “blue walled boxes” on our platforms & trains stations being around for years. When one comes down & reveals a brand new stair case that makes getting out of your station so much more pleasant & faster - it’s a really nice surprise! @ridersalliance.org @transalt.org

This city isn’t serious about airport transportation. 27 minute wait for next bus to LaGuardia on a weekday. Whenever I see someone with luggage waiting here I feel so bad for them knowing they are most likely going to miss their flight.

Cars backing out of these almost block long curb cuts along Northern Blvd cause constant conflict w/pedestrians often causing peds to have to veer out into street in order not to be run over as they back out. No room for strollers or holding your kid’s hands. Prohibit this kind of parking in NYC.

Please spend less time shouting that America is cooked and more time helping to keep Elon Musk from getting a stranglehold on Wisconsin, a crucial swing state.

Had a great time in NYC’s most inclusive parade, St Pat’s for All. It’s such a jubilant time with so many smiling faces lining the parade route. I marched with the @34ave.bsky.social Open Streets Coalition.

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

Leadership in London. "London Mayor Sadiq Khan began a consultation Friday on a contentious plan to pedestrianize Oxford Street in a move to regenerate the city’s busiest shopping destination” Walkable streets are GREAT for business. 👏 @mayoroflondon.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Utrecht NL is about to build the largest Dutch car-free neighbourhood. 12K people. 6K homes. 1.8K social rental homes. 1.5 mid-range rental & affordable owner-occupied homes. 21.5K bike parking spaces. 250 shared cars. 2 parcel hubs. Parking structures on district edge. High quality public transit.

“You called us quiet cowards…We kicked up a million times more fuss when a transgender celebrity drank a Bud Light, or when they asked us to wear masks, than we are right now that our bonkers boss is threatening to economically crush, and then imperialistically occupy, our closest ally and friend.”

It’s nice how they’ve replicated the middle school dynamic of the insecure bully and his sniveling sidekick picking on someone surrounded by a circle of scared little boys who also try to talk shit so the bully doesn’t come after them. Or as the right calls it, “masculinity.”

Lower Manhattan needs to be either car-free or really step up enforcement (preferably automated) because of its really narrow sidewalks and cars & trucks are parked all over them leaving zero room for pedestrians which make up bulk of its users. Crazy.

If you’re a Dem elected and you’re not mentioning the massive cuts to cancer cure and social security funding in every public appearance you’re just not doing your job.

Another day that I wound up using @nycferry.bsky.social @citibikenyc.bsky.social & subway & bus - I was in Rockaway, Wall Street & Jackson Heights. All worked beautifully. I just wish we had an integrated system so I could use OMNY for all the services.

One of the hardest things to watch, as the United States circles the drain with the real potential of taking the world with it, is the unrelenting debate about whether the Democrats were too woke, or not woke enough? I would’ve voted for a literal potted plant to help keep Trump from power.

Trump is killing New Yorkers, again

in his statement "cancelling" congestion pricing, sean duffy calls people who ride the subway "an elite few" and i just feel as a communication professional that they gotta decide if they're going with that or crime-ridden drug den homeless shelter

you love to see it. gov hochul comes out strong.

The Brooklyn Democratic Party is utter trash. They lack any sense of shame and are emboldened by the fact that voters have no alternative. I would've changed my registration years ago if it didn't mean getting shut out of a primary vote that acts as a de facto general election vote in most races.

MTA doing more than any other agency by literally just saying "No"

There is literally nothing good and successful that he won’t wreck.

Nice of 1/2 dozen selfish drivers to barricade this Citibike station so you cannot dock/undock #bikenyc! The kind of lawbreaking drivers do all the time in NYC. Every block. It was 2 degree windchill and I needed to check out a Citibike to get back from doctors and my achey knee. Thanks jackasses.

Before NYC DOT redesigned Third Avenue in 2023, the anti-bike lane crowd was pretty loud on The Other Site. Since then, we've seen dramatic safety gains AND a 79% increase in cycling. Data: -33.3% drop in total injuries -42.9% drop in motor vehicle injuries -54.3% drop in ped injuries

There are two things crushed in journalism by the collapse of the industry's economic model: 1) A labor-intensive system of checks that insured several eyes saw an idea, read and edited the resulting piece, sent it to a copy desk of trained wordsmiths read it again and ensure presentation matched;

"But at least three of the deputy mayors who attended the Sunday meeting - First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres Springer, Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi, and Deputy Mayor for [H&HS] Anne Williams Isom had already told the mayor of their intention to step down" www.nbcnewyork.com/new-york-cit...

Trump and Putin meeting to “negotiate peace” on anything should be seen for what it is — two criminals discussing how to split the loot.

I cannot stress how an overwhelming number of Americans would be outraged by this if they knew it was happening. So tell them. You low information voter friends. Your Trump-ish relatives. Tell them. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/b...

Americans, we love you. But you elected a president who thinks the Russians are your friends and Canadians are your enemies. What did you think would happen? www.espn.com/olympics/hoc...

It's wild more NYC politicians aren't calling for Puppet Adams removal. I crossposted this tweet from @aoc.bsky.social the other day to our NYC sub and it's the #2 post *ever* with 10,000+ upvotes (a TON, if you don't know Reddit.) Her tweet here on BS is up to 86k. NYers are FED UP.

NEW: How Other Prosecutors Could Pick Up the Case Against Eric Adams

Here's a clip from our newest Streetfilm called "Rate Your Daylighting!" We went out to rate NYC DOT daylighting treatments from using ineffective paint & sticks to placing planters, bike racks, slabs of rock, curbs & other hardening measures to keep cars from parking! ⬇️ Full film in 1st comment ⬇️

How much Elon Musk makes from the government a day: $8 million. How much a senior on Social Security gets a day: $65 Note: In 2024 alone, Musk’s enterprises were awarded approximately $3 billion across nearly 100 federal contracts, averaging about $8 million per day.

The 34th Ave Open Street has carved out one of the few places in America kids can simply walk home from school. Which is amazing, but what are we even doing in this country? (@34_Ave and @jimrockaway.bsky.social) youtu.be/4QhAa4y1gLI

I understand the list of things this man has said and done is long but that he tweeted that COVID was engineered to spare Jews and Chinese people less than two years ago and is now HHS secretary is truly toxic icing on the antivax cake, to me www.npr.org/sections/sho...

“Quite frankly, the mayor does not have the legal authority to suspend the law by executive order,” Speaker Adrienne Adams says of Mayor Adams potentially repealing New York City sanctuary laws through executive order

NEW: What makes BLUESKY the new “IT” place for Urbanists? It’s pretty significant that the American Planning Association is putting this out there to its huge membership. I was interviewed for it, as was @mitchellsilver.bsky.social & others. Please share! @bsky.app www.planning.org/planning/202...

Making outdoor dining seasonal and instituting "a Kafkaesque bureaucratic maze" for restaurants to reapply was very much intentional — a way for pro-parking City Council members to kill outdoor dining without saying that explicitly.

This is important — closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY. There was also a 71% drop in air pollution. Via @carltonreid.com in @forbes.com. #citymakingmath #citiesforpeople www.forbes.com/sites/carlto...

Slim pickings at my @citibikenyc.bsky.social racks and full of snow but markedly better than waiting for the bus! I got to my destination before the bus was even scheduled to arrive!

Every morning & afternoon thousands of kids walk &bike the 26 blocks of #34AveOpenStreets in Jax Heights no matter the weather to and from the many schools that dot the corridor. It’s the safest arrival & dismissal in NYC. No crashes, no exhaust, no honking. It’s should replicated everywhere.
