I've written about what happens when antibiotic research goes unfunded. Teams that worked for years to find and test badly needed new compounds break apart. Their institutional knowledge goes unrecorded. The compounds they worked on are lost to development. Now scale that to all of US science.

If you’re not currently in the LA area, I can’t overemphasize enough that last Tuesday was a wind event as much as a fire event. There is still debris & downed trees EVERYWHERE! That’s why any other wind is scary.

There is something so sweet about the human capacity for enthusiasm. For a few days everyone in LA has been glued to Watch Duty and getting in the weeds of how water drops work. Now there are people out here who honestly have a favorite water plane that they are following closely and rooting for.
